Platform Statement: Part I

1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? (1500 characters or less)
If elected Region Chair, one of my first focuses will be to support two specific NACADA Strategic Goals:

*Provide professional development opportunities that are responsive to the needs of advisors and advising administrators.
*Promote the role of effective academic advising in student success to college and university decision makers.

As Region Chair, it would be my responsibility to help develop, promote, and facilitate ongoing professional development for Region 2 members. I want NACADA members to value their membership and consider it a twelve-month professional development opportunity and more than just attending conferences. I want to engage region members who are not able to attend an annual or regional conference by supporting the steering committee in offering local or virtual events to help advisors and advising advocates expand their professional network. I want to work with the executive office and the regional steering committee in listening to the membership, help developing...

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? (1500 characters or less)
My greatest accomplishment in NACADA (to date) was co-chairing the 2017 Region 2 Conference in Pittsburgh, PA. While I had previously chaired a NACADA Drive-In, the regional conference, budget, venue, and volume of attendees was on a scale that was quite overwhelming at first. To put on a successful conference, I needed to be a leader in managing a budget, negotiating prices, managing multiple timelines and deadlines, keeping all volunteers to a strict project management calendar (while also remembering that these are volunteers), be creative and innovative, maintaining a careful attention to detail, and make it all look seamless. Our conference had a record number of attendees and turned a sizable profit, but mostly importantly, attendees left satisfied and fulfilled with what they experiences socially and professionally. Being able to work on a conference over the course of 24 months, developing partnerships and friendships along the way, and see it grow from an idea to a three-day event...

Platform Statement: Part III

3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? (1500 characters or less)
I am interested in becoming Region 2 Chair as this is my next opportunity to serve the region. In not only co-chairing a regional conference, but also serving as a NACADA commission chair, I have had the opportunity to work with other NACADA leaders at the regional and national level. I developed a network of contacts that I would look forward to working with again as well as looking forward to helping mentor the next generation of NACADA leaders.
Selfishly, I would look forward to being region chair because it would allow me to use a skill set that I do typically use in my normal job function. The project management and leadership skills I was able to develop as a conference co-chair are traits I want to further develop, and being a region chair would allow me that opportunity.

Platform Statement: Part IV

4. Please describe how you will work to promote the enhancement of inclusivity throughout (or within) the association. (1500 characters or less)
At my first NACADA event, I heard a NACADA leader state the people are valued within the association not for what they know, but for what they are willing to share. People of all backgrounds, ideologies, and professional levels are welcome within NACADA and have something to bring to the table. I want to make sure NACADA events and our membership reflect the inclusivity we expect our institutions to protect and our students to respect. If there is an area NACADA is not representing to the best of its ability, it is up to the leaders to identify these focus areas and seek out opportunities to embrace and welcome them into the NACADA family.
