2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? (1500 characters or less)
Over the past year, I have moved into a newly created position that oversees the professional development and assessment of academic advisors throughout the campus. Once in my new role, I was able to gather the advising leadership form throughout campus for a retreat to develop an academic advising mission as well as a list of agreed upon core expectations for academic advisors. The group represented all academic units as well as those that serve our undecided students. While not always in agreement, the members put aside their differences and worked to develop these universally accepted documents. These two documents have become the foundation of the work we are doing in support of student success initiatives through a proactive advising approach. This accomplishment demonstrates my ability to bring together diverse points of view and practices and lead the group to a common understanding of the role of academic advising on our campus. I often found myself needing to focus the group and assist them in staying on task. Reminding them frequently that the focus is on students and the role advisors play in their journey. By being inclusive, listening to diverse opinions and maintaining a focus for the group we have been able to develop a stronger community of practice around academic advising and ultimately student success.

I felt privileged to work with such a dedicated group of individuals who collectively produced an important document for the advising profession.
