Platform Statement: Part I

1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? (1500 characters or less)
NACADA is an organization that believes in inclusivity, diversity, and supporting their members. The LGBTQA Advising and Advocacy commission supports NACADA members and a student population with a unique set of needs. The commission has been working hard to bring awareness, education, and research about LGBTQA students to the advising community. I would like to continue this mission and promote a more professional, research-oriented face for the commission.

Platform Statement: Part II

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? (1500 characters or less)
I was selected to be a part of the 2016-2018 Emerging Leader class. I have grown so much from this experience and have access to more resources now than ever. The ELP program fosters new NACADA leaders. I have been working hard with my mentor to become an excellent NACADA spokesperson through research, active participation within the NACADA community, and publications. I will have an article published in the AAT in December and am working on a book review for consideration.

Platform Statement: Part III

3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? (1500 characters or less)
I believe in the work Mandy, Wendy, and Craig started. I believe that we can propel this commission to new heights with the programs, resources, and research goals that have been established. I would like to take this work and build upon it to make the commission one of the most professional and represented.

Platform Statement: Part IV

4. Please describe how you will work to promote the enhancement of inclusivity throughout (or within) the association. (1500 characters or less)
This commission is one of inclusion. We represent a diverse NACADA membership. But our work needs to shift toward assisting advisors across the NACADA community to understand the needs of their LGBTQA students. We can only do that through education. We need to present at conferences, research, publish articles for AAT and the journal. We need to post on the NACADA blog. We need to show the NACADA community how to be great allies in this troubled political time.

Past Involvement in NACADA

5. Outline your past involvement in NACADA:
     a. Years in NACADA
     b. National Offices Help and Accomplishments Achieved

I've been a member of NACADA since 2010 and a member of the LGBTQA Commission since 2010. I have been on the LGBTQA Steering committee for four years, presented for the commission twice, and served as Region 4 representative. I am a member of the 2016-18 Emerging Leader Class. I was award the Administrator's Institute Scholarship in 2017. I have attended several Institutes and most annual conferences. I will be published in the AAT in December. I have served as a annual conference proposal reader since 2010 and this year have served as a reader for the Awards Committee and a Region 4 conference reader.
