1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? (1500 characters or less)
Of course, my main responsibilities as a member of the Board are to move strategic goals of the organization forward, while also serving as a steward for NACADA's finances. My involvement with the organization at all levels has prepared me for this role, and I am ready to take on this new responsibility.
In my time as a Council and Board member, I have become increasingly interested in the sustainable leadership concept that is being explored by the organization. NACADA must find ways to effectively develop, train, and encourage leaders at all levels of the organization. I am also of the opinion that the Board should examine ways to ensure that all persons within the association benefit from membership. A close examination of how the regions serve members and leveraging technology to better serve members would help with this idea and would be a priority for me. I'm also excited about the creation of the Academic Advising Core Competencies, and the next President would need to champion...

I'm also excited about the creation of the Academic Advising Core Competencies, and the next President would need to champion the full integration of these competencies throughout the advising profession. Promoting advising as a profession and the role of academic advising in student success (given the complexities of the current state of higher education) is a difficult task, but one that I would be excited to tackle as President.

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? (1500 characters or less)
My experiences serving the membership of NACADA at the Board, Council, Region, and State have been my greatest accomplishments as a professional within this organization. Our regions continue to have success with a focus towards meeting NACADA's strategic goals. In my two years as Region Chair and as a Regional Division Representative, we have had tremendous success growing our regional conferences, creating strong mentoring programs, and providing grants and scholarships to worthy members within the regions. Most importantly, I firmly believe that the regions are more organized and cohesive than they have ever been. This sustained involvement with the regions has given me a comprehensive understanding of all the issues impacting the regions and members at all levels of involvement and shows a true commitment to NACADA and the field of academic advising, which I think is invaluable when moving into a role like President.

In my professional life, I've had my greatest successes creating/transforming advising systems on two separate campuses, all the while administering day-to-day operations for advising. In all these instances, I have been able to effectively supervise staff, advance advising as a critical component of the student experience, champion diverse approaches to serving students, and develop structures and systems that reflect best practices and allow for flexibility for advising units to best manage the complexities of their respective student populations.

3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? (1500 characters or less)
I have benefited tremendously from my involvement with NACADA, and this organization has given me many of the tools that have led to my success as an advising professional. Others that I have worked with in this organization continue to encourage my involvement, and I have always had the support of others to stay involved.
In the past 10 + years, I have significantly increased my involvement within NACADA at the state, regional, and association level, and service to this organization has become such an important part of who I am, and I view the role of President as a natural progression to even more responsibility for me at this time in my NACADA and professional career. I lost in last year's presidential election, and I am aware that this could happen again this year, but just running for office last year gave me the opportunity to meet and work with great people within the organization, increased my understanding of the goals of the organization, and helped me develop leadership skills...

Putting your name out there, deciding to run for office, and developing a platform statement does take courage and effort, but running and being elected to an office has been one of the most gratifying parts of my involvement within the organization and has given me an opportunity to contribute to an organization that has done so much for me and the field of advising. That's why I'm running again this year.

4. Please describe how you will work to promote the enhancement of inclusivity throughout (or within) the association. (1500 characters or less)
Working to represent the diverse interests of members has been one of my primary goals as a NACADA leader. I would continue to encourage opportunities for networking among new and experienced members, and I would want to continue to provide resources to all members looking to get more involved with the organization in the way of training and professional development opportunities. Helping members become more involved with this organization has been a passion of mine. I am currently chairing a Barriers to Leadership Subcommittee in my role on the Board, and this group is reviewing the various challenges members face when moving into elected and appointed leadership positions, and will be providing a mid-year report to the Board, which will include suggestions and further recommendations on this important issue.
I support the continued reach of NACADA across the world, and it is imperative that we continue to strengthen current global relationships that we already have, as well as seek...

I support the continued reach of NACADA across the world, and it is imperative that we continue to strengthen current global relationships that we already have, as well as seek out ways to effectively build new partnerships. Programs and services for members have to reflect the notion that we live in a complex, ever changing world, and I would support development of new and innovative opportunities/systems/resources to actively examine the needs of diverse student and advisor populations. Access to knowledge about a variety of advising approaches must also be a priority. Finally, the association must continue to be a welcoming and safe place for all to learn.
