Platform Statement: Part I
1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? (1500 characters or less)
One of the strategic goals for NACADA includes implementing the vision to disseminate theory, research and practice of academic advising within higher education to achieve student success. One method to achieve this is through relationship building. Advising and relationship building can be mediums to support student success. This passion for students success combined with the responsibilities through this position provide an opportunity to work with administration and other advisors within the region and globally to change the world one advisor, one student, and one policy at a time. In the role as Region 10 Chair I would support professional development opportunities for members to advance scholarship within the advising community by encouraging presentations and publications within the field. I also believe it is important to assist with communication across the region by building collaborative relationships within and among the states within Region 10. In addition, it will be important to stay attune to the needs of the NACADA Region 10 community and collaboratively address the changing demands of the position and field. These three goals will assist with connecting theory and research to practical application within the association and in higher education.

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? (1500 characters or less) In the role as Council of Academic Advising President at my institution, I had the opportunity to collaborate with multiple advisors, students, administrators and departments to advance academic advising on our campus. During that year in collaboration with the exceptional leadership team, we hosted monthly meetings, provided multiple professional development opportunities, shared policy recommendations, and encouraged leadership development among the advising community. I am appreciative of the relationship development, sense of community, and outcomes for student success that we were able to accomplish during that time. This is one example of the importance of impacting the community and building connections. These concepts provide a foundation for the possibilities available through the role as Region 10 Chair.

3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? (1500 characters or less)
NACADA’s Core Values of Academic Advising are that advisors are responsible for the individuals they advise, for involving others, their institutions, for higher education, their education community, for themselves and their professional practices. These core values provide a foundation for my advising philosophy and the reasons for my interest in serving as Region 10 Chair. Intrinsic advising, advising as teaching, and relationship building leads to student success. NACADA provides resources and opportunities for collaboration and dialogue. It continues to be a rewarding experience working with students, faculty, staff, and my colleagues locally, regionally, nationally and internationally through the advising role. This position provide another avenue to impact student success in the field. I would like to express my gratitude for being considered for the position of Region 10 Chair. I look forward to what can be achieved collaboratively during this term and in years to come. Thank...

4. Please describe how you will work to promote the enhancement of inclusivity throughout (or within) the association. (1500 characters or less)
Inclusivity is an important part of NACADA’s Core Values of Academic Advising and strategic goals. My personal and academic accomplishments coincide with NACADA and are a product of the support, encouragement, and cultural foundation of various advisors and mentors in my life. As others have imparted their wisdom to me, I choose to make a difference in the lives of others through advising and mentoring. Mentorship also provides an opportunity for collaboration and communication. This model of mentorship is one method to promote inclusivity within the association and aid in student success. Relationship development through mentorship can create a welcoming environment virtually or when meeting in person at a collegiate gathering. This 360 degree support and dialogue within the organization has the potential to transfer to our institutions. These are common themes when I have had conversations with other colleagues regionally, nationally, and internationally about the importance...
