Platform Statement: Part I

1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? (1500 characters or less)
I feel it is incredibly important that the general NACADA membership is aware of the decisions being made by leadership and that those decisions should be informed by the membership. I would work with the board to grow the mechanisms by which NACADA members can contribute to important discussions before decisions are made. Input from the breadth of members we have will only grow the strength of our organization and ensure we are making sound decisions that include the input and perspectives of our may members. In addition, NACADA members have voiced concerns regarding NACADA partnering with outside organizations and the perceived limited communication about why these partnerships are occurring and what the value is for NACADA. I seek to make that process more transparent to NACADA members and would work to ensure the needs of NACADA members are considered with any future partnerships.

Platform Statement: Part II

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? (1500 characters or less)
As an advising administrator, I feel it is essential that advising offices are built around the NACADA’s Core Values and the CAS Advising Standards. I have worked to do this in my own office, creating a student-focused office that operates efficiently buy integrating appropriate technology to enhance our services and designing learning-centered advising curricula grounded in assessment for continuous improvement. The success of these efforts was acknowledged at the local level when my office received the 2014 Outstanding Advising Unit award for my campus. In addition, I received the 2014 NACADA Region 9 Excellence in Advising – Administrator and the 2016 NACADA Outstanding Advising Administrator awards. These awards acknowledge my ability to build an advising unit that exemplifies what NACADA defines as successful.

In addition, I make a careful effort to support building the careers of each of the Academic Advisors that work in my office. I encourage them to engage with their profession,...

Platform Statement: Part III

3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? (1500 characters or less)
I feel that NACADA supported my growth as an academic advisor and an advising administrator through my participation at regional and national conferences, completion of the NACADA Administrator’s Institute and most recently my participation in the NACADA Emerging Leaders Program. In addition, serving as the STEM Advising Commission Chair (now Advising Communities) for the past two years has allowed me to engage with NACADA members and the organization in a new and exciting way. During my time as chair I have worked to improve engagement within my commission. All of these opportunities have strengthened my professional competence and helped connect me with NACADA members.

By serving on the NACADA Board of Directors I hope to be involved in bringing members’ perspectives to the table to make decisions that positively move the organization forward. In a time where there is always a new technology or initiative to jump on board with, it is an important time to continually ensure we...

Platform Statement: Part IV

4. Please describe how you will work to promote the enhancement of inclusivity throughout (or within) the association. (1500 characters or less)
The strength of NACADA is the diverse membership, which must be represented at all levels of leadership within the organization. As a member of the board I would encourage NACADA to continue implementing programs, such as the Emerging Leaders Program, that ensure equal representation in NACADA leadership from the broad range of institutions, position types and unique backgrounds of our members. While there are many Advising Communities (previously Commissions and Interest Groups) that create smaller communities within NACADA for individuals with specific advising niche’s, I feel it is important that individuals from these groups are also at the table to help NACADA make informed decisions that represent the needs and interests of our diverse membership. At a minimum, I would work to increase the ways Advising Community Chairs can participate in discussions related to changes and new directions within NACADA. This would ensure broader representation in decision making. I also think additional...
