Platform Statement: Part I

1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? (1500 characters or less)
NACADA is blessed to have so many energetic, involved members in the work of the association. If elected to this position, my role would be to continue the grassroots movement of actively engaging members from diverse backgrounds to assist the organization with expanding the scholarship and professionalism of academic advising in nontraditional ways. Through the use of innovative technology and creative thinking, I would like to expand membership engagement globally using synchronous and asynchronous collaboration.

Platform Statement: Part II

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? (1500 characters or less)
Over the past two years, I have been given the unique opportunity to assist Northern Virginia Community College with developing a college-wide organizational structure for advising, student services, and the administration of learning technology resources. This effort, which impacts 75,000 students, is aimed at answering a number of questions that speak to NOVA’s advising and student services culture, institutional purpose, and student support outlook moving into its 6th decade of service to Northern Virginia. Our benchmarks to success will be threefold:
• Every student will develop a goal and with a clear map to a credential
• Every student will have an informed and engaged academic advisor
• Every student will have access to an Integrated Planning and Advising for Student Success (IPASS) technology
This student centered advising model will be complimented with a number of professional development and training opportunities for NOVA’s diverse academic advising, academic counseling,...

Platform Statement: Part III

3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? (1500 characters or less)
Having volunteered with NACADA for over ten years, I am always looking for fun and creative ways to enhance the advising experience for all. Through leadership, I have found a way to leverage my personal strengths to encourage members from diverse backgrounds to get actively engaged in the association and their college community. If given the opportunity to serve as a Board Member, my hope would be that I could connect our broad global network of advising professionals to each other so that we could assist NACADA with meeting their short and long term strategic goals.

Platform Statement: Part IV

4. Please describe how you will work to promote the enhancement of inclusivity throughout (or within) the association. (1500 characters or less)
The field of academic advising has faced visible and invisible diversity challenges. There is a need to actively engage members from across the globe who not only represent visible attributes including different races, genders, and physical abilities, but also represent people from different countries, socio-economic backgrounds, sexual orientation, religions, and institutional types. As the premier global leaders in academic advising, it is each NACADA members’ role to model inclusive values and create opportunities for members and nonmembers to be engaged in the advising community. By serving the NACADA community on the Board of Directors, I hope to be one of many NACADA leaders who chose to actively promote diversity and inclusion into every activity I engage in at the institutional, state, regional, national, and global level.
