Platform Statement: Part I

1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? (1500 characters or less)
As an Administrative Division Representative, my goal will be to support all boards and committees to realize their goals.  Each area commits to the strategic goals of NACADA and  I can help meet the goals by supporting their efforts and offering a perspective that comes from working with all the boards and committees.  I can assist in idea sharing and facilitate relevant conversations.  A good leader realizes that they do not need to know or do everything themselves.  They identify, involve, and support the people that collectively know and can do.

One personal interest is the recruitment and development of membership and leadership and to enhance the opportunities to recruit and mentor young professionals.  Our Leadership team has done amazing work to develop our membership.  I see so many of my peers looking to the future to ensure that our association grows.  The next generation of NACADA leadership needs cultivation from current leaders.

It takes many different approaches and...

Platform Statement: Part II

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? (1500 characters or less)
I am proud of the restructure and continual development of Arts & Sciences advisement structure. We are a C2/D2 model. We collaborate with our departments individually while trying to establish and enhance college wide benchmarks for student success. Our faculty partners praise our structure and support provided to our students. There is also the partnership that academic advising has developed with student success partners. Student Affairs, Enrollment Management and other success centers are involved in our initiatives and strategic goals. There is less division and more collaboration than before and it truly benefits our students to see a complete and inclusive success network.

In NACADA, I believe one highlight of my tenure has been my contribution to the redesign of the Administrators’ Institute curriculum. In the past few years, we have developed a second track at the institute that responds to the growing trend of University Wide Advising Directors. This trend in institutional...

Platform Statement: Part III

3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? (1500 characters or less)
Academic Advising has been the only career path I have ever known.  I find great pride in what we do as a profession and how NACADA supports us as a community.  I have been incredibly lucky to find so many outstanding mentors in NACADA that have illustrated to me how increased involvement leads to increased return to myself and the community I care so much about.

I have served on the Advising Administrator’s Institute board for the several years and have had two terms as chair.  While I encourage the opportunity for new leadership in that board I still have a passion for supporting our organization and this is yet another way I can support and contribute.  I have had excellent support from the Administrative Division.  This has allowed me to advance our efforts and collaborate with other boards to enhance multiple projects.  I want to continue this good work. I want to support the next round of leaders in the division to reach the highest level of their potential in these roles.

Platform Statement: Part IV

4. Please describe how you will work to promote the enhancement of inclusivity throughout (or within) the association. (1500 characters or less)
As part of the administrative division, I would encourage the open dialogue necessary to keep inclusivity at the forefront of our priorities.  From recruitment practices to research to publications, the welcoming of varied backgrounds and perspectives is what will elevate our organization and being intentional about inclusion is at the very core of our organization.

Intentionality is key.

Throughout our organization, we stress how our endeavors should align with our strategic goals.  On our annual reports for each board and committee, we ask which strategic goals are addressed with each initiative.  Perhaps the administrative division can ask specifically “How does this promote our strategic goal of equity and diversity?”  If not answered, conceivably the follow up question should be “How can it?”

In addition, as the support for the Inclusion and Engagement Committee, I would ask them how the Administrative Division Representatives can stress the importance of this...

Past Involvement in NACADA

5. Outline your past involvement in NACADA:
     a. Years in NACADA
     b. National Offices Help and Accomplishments Achieved

I have been a proud member of NACADA since 2001.  I started to attend conferences at that time as an Advisor and then utilized different workshop platforms to assist me in my position as Supervisor and then Director of two college advisement centers.

I have presented at several state and annual conferences over the past years and support my own staff in submitting proposals and presenting at the state, regional, and annual level.

I have served on the Administrators’ Institute both as a committee member and then as a two term Chair since 2012.  I have also served as faculty at the annual Administrators institute as well as several Winter Seminars.   I received a Certificate of Merit in 2012 for Outstanding Advising Administrator.  As Chair of the advisory board, I was a member of the professional development committee in the past. Over the years, I have volunteered to read applications for scholarship awards as well as assist in presentation selections for the Annual Conferences....
