Advising High Achieving Students Chair
Commission Chairs are elected by their Commission members and provide leadership for Commission activities in support of the profession by representing its members and their needs and concerns through the Division Representatives and communicating with the members. Commission Chairs coordinate commission activities and lead Commission meetings during the Annual Conference. Commission Chairs report to the Division Representatives for the Commission and Interest Group Division (CIGD). Advising High Achieving Students Chair- (elected, term October 2018 - October 2020). Prior to taking office, candidates must have completed the previous year as a member in the Commission and be a current member in that group.

Platform Statement: Part I

1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? (1500 characters or less)
a. Maintain quarterly meetings to ensure continual communication between commission members on a regular basis.
b. Increase awareness of commission resources on Slack to continue developing a hub for information both commission members and others who are interested in researching and advising with high-achieving college students.
c. Build literature for high-achieving student advising by compiling information on previous speakers at NACADA who have presented on this topic, as well as develop definitions for what constitutes high-achieving students.

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? (1500 characters or less)
Developing University College Scholars, an initiative to connect high-achieving First-Year students to relevant resources on campus. Year One (2016-2017) we had 7 returning students, while Year Two (2017-2018) has seen an increase to 15 returning students.

3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? (1500 characters or less)
Watching the example of what the previous Commission Chairs have been able to do inspired me to want to continue and enhance the upward momentum for the Advising High-Achieving Students Commission.

4. Please describe how you will work to promote the enhancement of inclusivity throughout (or within) the association. (1500 characters or less)
Building a foundation of respect for all persons who want to be involved, regardless of their background, institutional affiliation, race, ethnicity, or gender. Making certain that every member has an equal voice, no matter what school they represent, so we can have perspectives from multiple dimensions of higher education is of paramount importance.
