Platform Statement: Part I

1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? (2000 characters or less)
If elected, I want to continue on with the great work the Membership Committee has been doing in regards to new NACADA members during their first two years of membership and connecting with and providing support for our graduate school members.  I will keep the focus on how we can best recruit new members and retain members in the organization by creating opportunities for them to recognize the value of being a member of NACADA.  I want to incorporate NACADA’s Core Competencies in our new member orientation sessions at annual and regional conferences and also in our communication with new members during their first two years.    I will encourage our committee to look at various opportunities for recruiting graduate students and how we can best provide them with support during their graduate programs and also as they move into their careers after graduation.  I want to start focusing on our international members and ways in which we can best recruit and retain our international colleagues....

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? (2000 characters or less)
I have held many leadership roles at Weber State University, located in Ogden, Utah.  Over the years I have served on many university and college committees.  I was instrumental in combining our two staff committees (exempt and non-exempt) into one Staff Advisory Council that serves to represent staff ideas and concerns to our President’s Council and Board of Trustees.  I was the first chair of the Staff Advisory Committee and during the year I was chair and the year I served as advisory chair, the council made great progress in changing university policies in regards to parental leave and sick leave.  I am most proud of my work as a leader in creating a University Academic Advising Council (UAAC) that brings together the academic advising community at Weber State.  By forming a council, academic advisors are able to have their voice heard in an official capacity when it comes to policies and procedures that impact our students and advising.

Platform Statement: Part III
