Platform Statement: Part I

1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? (1500 characters or less)
I would like I would like to see the tech commission continue building on the strong momentum we have going; expanding offerings such as webinars, tech chats, the learning labs at conferences, and the twitter chats to encourage more advisors to become comfortable with technology, and also encourage more collaboration using technology-mediated communication.

Platform Statement: Part II

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? (1500 characters or less)
I was the first advisor on my campus to pilot skype advising years ago. Many folks were concerned it would encourage students to not come in for advising and be a detriment to the advising relationship. I think folks were also a little uncomfortable with understanding the tech and being on camera. I bought the necessary equipment and began piloting using several different platforms to see which one the students found easiest to use. Fast forward 5 years later and now every advisor at USF is given a camera and skype advising is widely used and a great help for our working students and those away on study abroad. Sometimes folks just need to see a project be a success in one area and then they are more willing to try it for themselves.

Platform Statement: Part III

3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? (1500 characters or less)
After joining the commission when I first was new to NACADA and meeting the current leaders of the tech commission, I was very impressed by their knowledge and skills and wanted to someday be as knowledgeable as they were. Now that I have been around for a few years I am very excited to give back to the community that has taught me so much. I love technology and I want to help others love it as much as I do.

Platform Statement: Part IV

4. Please describe how you will work to promote the enhancement of inclusivity throughout (or within) the association. (1500 characters or less)
One of the best things about technology is its ability to level the playing field and increase access across distance and individual abilities. I would like to see Universal Design principals be used in all of the education and outreach the commission does, as well being an open door for any advisor who is interested in learning more about, or getting more comfortable with technology.  I have been told I excel at building relationships and I intend to work hard to be accessible as well as seek out colleagues to collaborate with. I welcome thoughts, comments, and feedback from Nacada members and hope to encourage advisors to come to the commission with their feedback as well as their knowledge.
