1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? (1500 characters or less)
If elected, I would work to collaborate on increased communication, leadership opportunities and professional growth in the Advisor Training and Development (ATD) Advising Community. Enriching the leadership through finding equal representation on the ATD Steering Committee would ensure each region had a voice. Empowering leaders will allow for greater and richer connections for participants. I want to collaborate with participants the creation of subcommittees based on ATD topical issues including: (1) mentoring, (2) professional development and (3) technology. Research and scholarship can be uplifted through the ATD Scholars Community for practitioners interested in fostering new explorations in writing for NACADA. The ATD Mentoring Program would serve as an anchor for any practitioner looking for guidance from another professional. This would cultivate new lines of engagement and support to create active mentorships to help provide personalized action plans for success. ATD sponsored...

ATD sponsored virtual lunch and learns on various topics affecting the association would serve as cost-effective method to engage in technology while also affecting a greater number of members while also spotlighting practitioners who are leaders in the ATD field. The creation of an ATD Advising Community Facebook Group will serve as an active forum for membership to discuss issues in the field, share programming updates and connect throughout the year.

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? (1500 characters or less)
Last year, I helped to increase participation in the Region 2 Mentoring Program by 400%. As the coordinator, I created the “No Mentee Left Behind” campaign to aid in increasing professional engagement in our regional mentoring program. We had seen in previous years, an overwhelming number of mentee applicants, but too few mentor applicants. Prospective participants were not able to join our program. I never want to make a NACADA member feel like that cannot take part in a program because of lack of partakers. The campaign was widely supported by our regional steering committee. We had 40 participants in the program (2013’s cohort had 10 participants).
I believe this accomplishment shows my interest in the overall development of advising professionals through every milestone of their careers and how the art of mentoring transcends generations of higher education professionals. I think at the end of the day, I wanted to make sure I was proudly representing the interests of our...

I think at the end of the day, I wanted to make sure I was proudly representing the interests of our membership in Region 2 and I believe I accomplished that goal and helped to share why mentoring is important for our industry and what that can mean for the overall health of our practitioners.

3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? (1500 characters or less)
NACADA is an association that has given me endless many opportunities to aid in the development of new and continuing talent. Since the start of my advising career, seven years ago, training and development activities have been part of my role at Temple University. I was engaged in the university’s Academic Advisor Group (AAG), a body made of over 100 professional advisors. I served as Chairperson of the AAG for three years (2013-2016) and it was an opportunity to learn more about the needs and wants of Temple’s advising practitioners. I believe if I was elected the ATD Advising Community Chair, I would use that same strategy to pinpoint the direction of the community.
I am inspired by the past chairs in this role because they helped to set a precedent for this community and how the association has moved forward in its approach to training and development. I appreciate that our community encourages advisors to gain the skills necessary to be their very best. I would like to help...

I appreciate that our community encourages advisors to gain the skills necessary to be their very best. I would like to help lead the next wave of ATD programming because I understand the unique challenges we face at all points in our careers. I would also enjoy serving as an ambassador for ATD needs over the two years served in this role.

4. Please describe how you will work to promote the enhancement of inclusivity throughout (or within) the association. (1500 characters or less) I will support the association’s promotion of strengthening inclusivity through the ATD Advising Community by keeping it an active, open and safe environment for practitioners to come and engage with each other. I believe the broadening of leadership opportunities through the steering committee will allow for a greater number of participants to add their voices to the ATD conversation. Enhancing our support for each other will allow the community to continue to grow and flourish. The work of the ATD is vast and diverse like our membership. Showing respect, kindness and inclusivity of our members will only allow a greater meaning to come out of the work we do for not only the association but for the entire higher education community.
