1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? (1500 characters or less)
As Chair of the Global Awards Committee, I will support the expansion and communication of the scholarship of academic advising by ensuring we continue to recognize practitioner and professional research in our field and continue to offer research grant opportunities to NACADA members.
I will also advocate for increased scholarship opportunities for NACADA members to have financial access to professional development opportunities, including but not limited to Annual, Regional, and International Conferences.
I will ensure that college and university decision makers are made aware of academic advisors at their institutions who are recognized as outstanding advisors at the global level.
To foster inclusive practices in the Global Awards Committee, I will continuously ensure that our nomination processes and language are inclusive of all NACADA members and accessible to all.

A major priority for me as Global Awards Chair will be to link the regional awards committees with the Global Awards Committee. My vision for this is to create an optional pipeline for leaders at the regional level to step into leadership roles at the Association level.

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? (1500 characters or less)
In January 2014, our college president at Pikes Peak Community College authorized a major reorganization plan for academic advising at PPCC In November 2016, I was promoted from lead advisor to Coordinator of Advising at the same time our advising department merged with the college's testing department to become Advising & Testing. In September 2018, my department was recognized at the NACADA Global Awards ceremony with a Certificate of Merit for Outstanding Academic Advising Program. At the same time, my department was also recognized by NCTA for Program/Innovation of the year. These awards represent a collaborative effort and team recognition for the tremendous work my staff and colleagues do every day. I am most proud of our NACADA recognition because, as of this writing, I have hired every advisor (except one) for their current position on the advising side of the department. I am most proud of our NACADA recognition because, as of this writing, I have hired every advisor (except one) for their current position on the advising side of the department. The college administration has also recognized the great work happening here by increasing advisor salaries by 8% in December 2017. Our fall-to-fall retention rate has increased for 7 consecutive years; our graduation rates are at an all-time high, and staff morale is peaking. I am very fortunate to be surrounded by such an amazing staff of advisors – this is what I am most proud about my job and affiliation with NACADA, which has been a source of development and support throughout my career.

3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? (1500 characters or less) I am most passionate about recognizing the great work folks do for student success. My life was forever changed by an academic advisor after my first semester of college when I thought I would be told I shouldn't be in college. Instead, my advisor told me I am a good student and I will be successful - she communicated belief in my ability to succeed. I tell my staff regularly that the work they do changes lives in ways we may never understand, because I know my story is replayed similarly every day in my department and in thousands of offices around the world. Advisors are world-changers. I want to lead this committee to further this world-changer message, to empower NACADA members to recognize the life-changing work they do and to encourage them to recognize the same powerful work their colleagues do every single day.

4. Please describe how you will work to promote the enhancement of inclusivity throughout (or within) the association. (1500 characters or less) I will work with Advising Community chairs to ensure communication about our global awards. I will also work with the region award folks to develop processes that will make it easier for regional award nominations to be considered for global award consideration. As mentioned earlier, I will continuously ensure that our nomination processes and language are inclusive of all NACADA members and accessible to all.
