Platform Statement: Part I

1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? (1500 characters or less)
My main goal would be inclusive membership of all region 5 members.  We tend to go in spikes of membership based on where the Region conferences are held.  I would focus on our membership, how to grow it and how to maintain it after the conference cycle has left a particular state or province.  With the state of funds for publicly funded institutions it will also be important to provide our members with more professional development opportunities that cost very little or are free to allow access to a wider group of advisors and advising administrators.

Platform Statement: Part II

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? (1500 characters or less)
I would have to say my greatest NACADA accomplishment is the 2016 Region 5 conference in Toronto for which I was a co-chair.  When the Region conferences come to Ontario attendance has historically been lower than the other locations.  We were told not to expect more than 200 attendees and be thrilled with 250.  We had to stop registration at 350!  This conference really helped to foster my leadership skills.  We had a planning committee of 13 people that I worked directly with to help organize the event.  I learned get things about decision making and delegation during the two years leading up to the conference.  The feeling of accomplishment to see all of the hard work pay off was something that made me very proud.

Platform Statement: Part III

3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? (1500 characters or less)
I love Region 5 and I want to see it continue to flourish.  Our Region conferences are always well attended and we have a lot of involvement that I would love to see continue.  Region 5 was so welcoming to me when I joined NACADA that I want to keep that going. We have a large population in our region but I feel we could make that grow even more.  As a Canadian I would also like to see more Canadian representation in the leadership of NACADA.

Platform Statement: Part IV

4. Please describe how you will work to promote the enhancement of inclusivity throughout (or within) the association. (1500 characters or less)
I think the best way to promote inclusivity throughout the organization is by talking to people and getting more people involved.  I have heard from a lot of people that they don’t know how to become involved with NACADA.  I would like that to change. Reaching out to people who may feel that they cannot be a part of NACADA or that they don’t have a spot in the organization and letting them know they do and they are wanted and needed.

Platform Statement: Part V
