Platform Statement: Part I

1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? (1500 characters or less)
I fully support the vision, mission and strategic goals of our organization. NACADA's attention to the growth and development of its members, research and scholarship of the academic advising profession, and commitment to diversity and inclusion are just a few of the reasons why I will always continue to support and champion this organization. If selected to serve on the Board of Directors I will continue to advance initiatives and strategies that will provide professional development opportunities that are responsive to all of our needs and continue to speak to how effective academic advising is imperative to student success work. My current work in the Regional Division has helped me gain a deeper appreciation for what it means to be “responsive”. Our members need different things at different times. Depending on our personal and professional lenses we may not always be aware of these needs. I want to help the associate to think broadly about how it will continue its work in the future...

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? (1500 characters or less)
My current position has provided me an opportunity to lead and support institution-wide initiatives designed to increase student success. Through collaborative efforts, our campus has been able to adopt a student success technology platform that will increase our campus' ability to support and care for our students. I always say, "It takes a village to raise a UNCW Seahawk" and I am proud of our ability to come together as an advising community and as champions for student success to adopt a comprehensive tool that we know will make a difference for our students. Open communication, transparency, trust, respect and dedication are values that are imperative for today’s leaders that I believe I embody. The success of this project depended on bringing valued members of our campus community to the table and being willing to listen to their concerns and ideas for how we move forward together. Serving on the Board for NACADA will require the same values. Our organization is growing stronger...

3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? (1500 characters or less)
It has been an honor and a privilege to serve in several leadership roles in my state, region and at the association level. I would like to continue to support our association’s efforts in providing professional development that is responsive to the needs of our members, advocate for resources to increase scholarship and research for our profession, and to increase inclusivity in our association at all levels. I have been fortunate to work with dynamic and dedicated colleagues who are committed to supporting the goals and values of NACADA. I would like to continue the work started in the regional division that is looking deeply at how to serve the needs of its members in relationship to our global presence. I know that many of us are busy on our campuses but I have learned so much from others who were willing to share their time, knowledge and energy to help me grow and learn. I would like to pay that forward to those who are looking to be encouraged, educated and supported in our association.

Platform Statement: Part IV

4. Please describe how you will work to promote the enhancement of inclusivity throughout (or within) the association. (1500 characters or less)
As a woman of color, I do think deeply about how gender and race impact spaces on campus that are designed to help us grow personally and professionally. As I continued to grow in the profession socio-economic status, culture, sexuality, religion, institutional type, roles on campus and so many more aspects of diversity impacted my understanding of how to successfully support students and colleagues. Our perspectives will continue to inform how we see the world and those around us. Therefore, it is essential that we continue to learn about our students, colleagues, and other key stakeholders that impact our work. As a first-generation student, I learned to value diverse networks that helped me think differently about not only leadership and professional development but about life. This work cannot be done without different voices and perspectives in the room to help influence and guide how NACADA will continue its work in the future. Diversity simply describes who we are but inclusivity...

5. Outline your past involvement in NACADA:
     a. Years in NACADA
     b. National Offices Help and Accomplishments Achieved

I have been a member of NACADA for almost 10 years. I have had the pleasure and honor to serve in several roles in a leadership capacity. My service to NACADA began as hospitality chair for a Region 2 conference and the experience encouraged me to run for the Virginia liaison position. In this role, I was able to host a drive-in conference and successfully kick start a drive-in conference series that rotated around the state. I was selected to be a part of the Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) as a mentee and through the support of a wonderful mentoring relationship I became even more deeply committed to NACADA. I successfully ran for the Region 2 chair position and was able to accomplish goals in the Region that centered around growing diversity and inclusion in our membership as well as the leadership on the steering committee. I also had the opportunity to give back to the ELP program by serving as a mentor. I currently serve on the NACADA Council as one of the Regional Division representatives...
