Platform Statement: Part I

1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? (1500 characters or less)
If elected to the Region 7 Chair position, I plan to focus on the following areas:

1) Professional Development – provide more opportunities (in addition to the annual Region 7 Conference) for professional development and growth.  We would assess what Region 7 academic advisors want to learn about that would be beneficial to them.  Also, providing the information on a variety of platforms to include online and use technology tools to our advantage.  The opportunities could include (but not limited to): virtual lunch and learns, online experts panels and guest speakers, best practices virtual mixers, Feedback Fridays for people to pose questions and get best practices tips from peers, etc.

2) Outreach – continuous promotion and communication about the importance of academic advising to student success.  We would have a consistent communication schedule on multiple platforms (social media, print, e-mail, and website) that would include updates, resources, reminders, highlights,...

Platform Statement: Part II

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? (1500 characters or less)
An accomplishment within NACADA that I’m proud of is presenting more than 10 presentations at NACADA conferences (national and regional).  This accomplishment demonstrates my abilities as a leader to:

1) Assess and research what is needed – I would research by conducting informal needs assessments by asking fellow academic advisors what problems they encountered and/or topics they wanted to learn about that would help them in their position.  Also, researched by reviewing current trends and data on the topic.

2) Collaborate with others – I collaborated with co-presenter(s) and ensured everyone had input about the presentation from the proposal through delivery of the session.

3) Engage with diverse audiences – I implemented creative activities that was meant to encourage participation and discussion amongst the attendees.  Also, fostered an environment during presentations that were inclusive, positive, welcoming, and interactive.

4) Communicate clearly (verbal and written)...

Platform Statement: Part III

Platform Statement: Part IV

4. Please describe how you will work to promote the enhancement of inclusivity throughout (or within) the association. (1500 characters or less)
If elected as the Region 7 Chair, I would promote the enhancement of inclusivity through education by using strategic professional development opportunities.  We would first assess what the members of Region 7 want and need to learn regarding inclusivity to help foster student success on their campus and in their academic advising practice.  Then, using the data and feedback as a guide, decide what we want to focus on.  We would also think of innovative ways to deliver the professional development opportunities to have as much participation as possible from academic advisors in Region 7 (i.e., virtual lunch and learns, panel of students, webinars, online case studies).  We will have to tap into innovative technology tools.  In addition to professional development,  we will also use inclusive language and terminology in our communication (verbal and written).
