1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? (1500 characters or less)
If elected, I would work to support NACADA’s strategic goals to develop and sustain effective leadership, engage in ongoing assessment, and provide responsive professional development opportunities. In the role of ACD Representative, a key focus would be ensuring robust, two-way communication between the Council and members of the Advising Community Division (ACD).
To support the development of sustainable Association leadership, I would work with ACD leaders and the NACADA Council to identify tools and resources to promote sustainable leadership within the Advising Communities (ACs), such as assistance with developing and sustaining steering committees and other leadership structures, facilitating leadership hand-offs, and identifying and engaging new AC leaders.
To further the growth of the ACD and promote the ongoing assessment of the Advising Communities, I would work to provide tools, training, and assistance for assessing Advising Community activities, including the role...

To support the responsive professional development offered to NACADA members through the ACs, I will establish a regular practice of gathering feedback from AC leaders regarding the tools and resources they need to respond to the professional development needs of their members. I will share these needs with the NACADA Council and help facilitate solutions to these challenges.

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? (1500 characters or less)
The design, development, and implementation of the Student Success Center (SSC) at Cedar Crest College is a significant accomplishment in my career. The SSC brought together academic advising, tutoring and learning support, disability services, and international student services into a newly-renovated space.
The idea of the SSC was a part of conversation for several years before it was identified as a Strategic Plan Initiative. Once approved, we had less than a year to make it happen, and I was asked to take the lead. I worked with colleagues to design the SCC implementation schedule and manage a multi-phase moving process that impacted multiple offices, develop marketing materials, negotiate with the architects and designers, and establish workflow protocols for the SSC and its resources. This demonstrates my collaborative leadership approach, coupled with my ability to translate long-term planning into action very quickly.

In addition, the planning and implementation of the SSC required frequent communication between myself and College leadership, Facilities, General Services, Library, Information Technology, and Finance. This process highlighted my communication skills and ability to lead projects that involve multiple constituencies with competing priorities. Finally, I believe in continual assessment and improvement. Since its establishment I have lead my staff through a number of changes in the way we use the SSC to better support student success.

3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? (1500 characters or less)
Over the course of my career, I have held a variety of roles at various institutions. While advising might not be my primary focus on a given day, my experience as an advisor, the connections I’ve made through NACADA, and the personal and professional growth I have experienced with NACADA shape every decision that I make. In this way, NACADA has been the basis for my professional identity, and it remains deeply at my core. I want to continue to serve NACADA through leadership roles because I want to support the organization that has given me so much and help ensure that it can continue to serve advisors and advising administrators long into the future.
I’m particularly interested in serving as the Advising Community Division Representative because I've found tremendous value in the Advising Communities (AC). As I’ve taken on new professional challenges, worked at different types of institutions, and served new populations of students, I’ve used the ACs as my primary resource...

As I’ve taken on new professional challenges, worked at different types of institutions, and served new populations of students, I’ve used the ACs as my primary resource to learn about best practices, connect to colleagues, and brainstorm and ask questions in a safe and supportive environment. I would be honored to represent such a robust part of NACADA on the Council, and would welcome the opportunity to support the ACs as they continue to provide information, connections, and dynamic resources for our members.

4. Please describe how you will work to promote the enhancement of inclusivity throughout (or within) the association. (1500 characters or less) The Advising Communities offer a barrier-free way that we can ensure every NACADA member has a mechanism to interact with the Association. No matter what happens with travel budgets, professional development funds, or other circumstances that might impact a member’s ability to participate in webinars, conferences, or other NACADA events, the ACs offer every NACADA member to opportunity to engage with colleagues from all backgrounds and perspectives. As the ACD Representative, I will work to elevate the voices of the diverse members of the ACs and seek to implement new strategies for engaging diverse groups through and in the activities of the Advising Communities.
