Platform Statement: Part I

1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? (1500 characters or less)
One of the organization's benchmarks is active involvement in research. I would like to work to provide more resources and research available to two-year college members and an opportunity for members to share resources and experiences with one another including models, job aids, and national data that will be helpful in making decisions at their individual institutions. Having a resource center that holds relevant examples for two year colleges can help assist colleges to get ideas and connect with one another.

A second strategic goal is to complete a gap analysis to review unmet needs. Two-year college Advisement offices can have very different needs and experiences than their four year counterparts. Taking an active role in gathering feedback from this cohort can increase active participation in NACADA professional development opportunities which can benefit the organization. I would like to further collaborate with two year members and complete a needs assessment for this group...

Platform Statement: Part II

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? (1500 characters or less)
My institution is the middle of an implementation plan to build a Guided Pathways Framework within 10 different colleges within our district. There has been a commitment to increasing the quality of advising, training, and creating a sustainable model that will provide high levels of service and completion outcomes to our students. As the Chair of our District Academic Advising Council that is made up of Director's of Advising at 10 different campuses we have successfully been able to lead the charge in significant changes to advising. This includes creating a job description for an elevated position using NACADA best practices, decreasing our Advising Ratio, begin to develop a training and development plan around NACADA best practices, and collaborate with faculty to allow advisors the opportunity to create curriculum with various faculty members. In addition we have brought together various stakeholders across 10 different colleges to create understanding and support for the changes to advising.

Platform Statement: Part III

3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? (1500 characters or less)
Two year advisors make up a small percentage of the NACADA membership, however, they serve the majority of students across the nation. Advising at two year colleges comes with a unique perspective and challenges and NACADA is in a great position to provide professional development and support to these advisors. I would like the opportunity to serve as a voice to the two year college community to help support their needs in order to better serve their students and to further connect them with one another.

Platform Statement: Part IV

4. Please describe how you will work to promote the enhancement of inclusivity throughout (or within) the association. (1500 characters or less)
The reason many professionals choose to work at a Community College is based on a passion for inclusivity. However, there is a smaller amount of two year college members within NACADA.  Due to the lower membership numbers for two year colleges it is essential to promote professional development that is applicable to the two year college advisor. I would like to gather feedback from two year college members on the topics and issues that are relevant to them, and make efforts to increase professional development opportunities that meet their needs. This includes increasing the amount of two year college advisors that receive national recognition, and increasing two year college presenters at conferences.
