As Chair of the Technology in Advising Community I would work to align the goals of the community with the strategic goals of NACADA. 2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? (1500 characters or less)
At my home campus, the University of Texas at Arlington, I previously served on the campus advising association (UTAAA) executive board for 7 years in various positions. My last year with the executive board I served as President and presided over the general meetings each month and served as the chair of the annual conference committee. The theme of the conference was Professional Growth in Advising: Dig it! We were pleased to have NACADA recommended, keynote speaker Dr. Melissa Johnson from the University of Florida. It was a 1 day conference, and was well attended with over 180 attendees. I was excited to offer each attendee an opportunity to have a professional head shot taken without having to increase the cost of registration. The evaluations were positive; we received many compliments on the sessions topics offered and the smooth transitions between sessions. I worked with an outstanding group of advisors in multiple conference subcommittees to make it all happen.

3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? (1500 characters or less)
Having served in advising capacities for over 14 years, I have been interested in serving in a leadership position with NACADA for some time now.  Initially, I was nervous about jumping into any leadership role with NACADA until gaining leadership experience from my home campus advising association (UTAAA). I spent 7 years on the UTAAA Executive Board, and after spending a few years with the NACADA Technology in Advising community as a Steering Committee Member, I know that this community is a great fit for me. I share a passion for the goals of the Technology in Advising community, and would love to help the community develop and grow.

4. Please describe how you will work to promote the enhancement of inclusivity throughout (or within) the association. (1500 characters or less)
Technology plays an important role in creating more open and inclusive workplaces. I believe the aim of technology in higher education is to provide transparency across academic units, student affairs offices, and to make as many aspects of advising work easier, compliant, more efficient and ultimately more inclusive. The Technology in Advising Community can play a significant role in contributing towards breaking down the barriers to inclusivity that exists today. As Chair of the Technology in Advising Community, I plan to work with the group to examine the current resources of NACADA and the Technology In Advising Community to determine what we need to either develop or update to better meet the needs of the advising community. I also intend to work on increasing inclusive, advising technology virtual offerings that would increase membership participation.
