Platform Statement: Part I

1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? (1500 characters or less)
If elected, my goal will be to continue the efforts of my predecessors and grow the business majors community.  In doing so, my hope is we continue to attract diverse, talented advisors from all types of educational institution where we will be able to continue to share ideas and best practices to enhance student engagement, success, and learning.  Through this collaboration, I will also promote scholarly activities and encourage members to facilitate and/or participate in seminars/webinars as well as encourage members to submit conference proposals.

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? (1500 characters or less)
As an advisor who only has 2 ½ years of experience, I cannot say I really have had any specific accomplishments either within the institution that I am a part of (University of Michigan-Dearborn) or NACADA.  However, in my time as an academic advisor, I have been given many opportunities to learn and grow as an advisor.  In attending each of the last two NACADA national conferences, my passion for academic advising, specifically helping business students, has only grown and I have gained a great deal of inspiration.  Being the next Business Majors Community Chair will allow me the opportunity to share my passion and continue to fuel the drive I have to move the Business Majors Community forward.

Platform Statement: Part III

3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? (1500 characters or less)
Upon completion of my Master’s degree, I joined NACADA as a way to help me learn more about the academic advising community.  Since becoming a business advisor, I have immersed myself in the business majors community and attended my first commission meeting 2 years ago.  In that time, I have consistently been afforded the opportunity to learn, grow, and connect with other business advisors.  I am now in a place where I feel I can lead and give back to the business advising community.  I would love the opportunity to continue to grow the profession and the business majors community.  With that, I will continue the mission of my predecessor of creating a community that is all-inclusive and driving the idea that there is something for everyone.

Platform Statement: Part IV

4. Please describe how you will work to promote the enhancement of inclusivity throughout (or within) the association. (1500 characters or less)
Although my chosen profession is a business advisor, I have earned my Master’s degree in Counseling with a focus on the college population.  One of the things I have always pursued and strived for as a counselor is the promotion of social justice and inclusivity for all.  A diverse membership within advising, and more specifically in the business advising community, will continue to promote learning among its members.  Each advisor has a different story to tell and experience things through different lenses.  It is important to share those stories and experiences with others if we are to continue to provide the services to a student body that is becoming ever more pluralistic.  As business committee chair, I will continue the effort to not only promote diversity within our membership, but also create a welcoming environment where all advisors can feel safe to share experiences and have discussions on those experiences, learn from the experiences of others, and apply that knowledge to...

Platform Statement: Part V

5. Outline your past involvement in NACADA:
     a. Years in NACADA
