Community Chairs are elected by their Community members and provide leadership for Community activities in support of the profession by representing its members and their needs and concerns through the Division Representatives and communicating with the members. Community Chairs coordinate community activities and lead Community meetings during the Annual Conference. Community Chairs report to the Division Representatives for the Advising Communities Division (ACD). HBCU Chair - (elected, term October 2019-October 2021). Prior to taking office, candidates must have completed the previous year as a member in the Community and be a current member in that group.

Platform Statement: Part I

1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? (1500 characters or less)
If elected to this position, I would work diligently to ensure that all members of this advising community feel a connection and that they have a voice within NACADA.

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? (1500 characters or less)
In 2017, I served as the conference chair for Region 4.  This would be the first time that an HBCU  hosted this conference in the state of Mississippi.  I was pleased that our turnout was inclusive of  many first-time participants, other HBCUs and small technical, and community colleges that had not previously participated in NACADA events.  It was shared with me that our conference was one of the more diverse showings in recent region 4 history.

3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? (1500 characters or less)
I believe that I have a great passion for this position.   I truly believe that NACADA is a wonderful organization and that many persons in this field of work could benefit from all this entity has to offer.  I am willing to serve as a liaison to ensure that persons in this advising community have the chance to speak and be heard.  I would love to assist with fostering these such communications and engagements.

4. Please describe how you will work to promote the enhancement of inclusivity throughout (or within) the association. (1500 characters or less)
I will work to ensure that all members feel a connection within NACADA as well as with each other.  I will serve as an advocate and liaison to share with current leadership of NACADA any pertinent needs or issues that should be addressed.  I will also work diligently to share leadership opportunities, policies on participation, proposal writing, and publications to advising community members.

2005:  Was hired as an academic advisor
2008: Attended first MAM Conference (Mississippi Advisor's Meeting)
2010:  Presented at MAM Conference in Oxford, MS
2012:  Attended Region 4 Conference in Biloxi, MS
2013:  Served as conference co-chair at JSU for MAM Conference
2014: Was awarded "Best of State" for presentation at Region 4 in Savannah, GA
2015: Attended Annual Conference in Las Vegas, NV. Sang in NACADA Choir
2016-2018:  Was elected State Representative for Mississippi
2016: Attended and hosted state meeting for MS at Region 4 Conference in Orlando, FL
2017:  Served on Region 4 Steering Committee
2017: Served as Region 4 Conference Chair. Conference hosted by Jackson State University in Jackson, MS
2017:  Attended and presented at Annual Conference in Atlanta, GA. Hosted state meeting for MS
2017:  Was appointed to serve as HBCU Interest Co-chair
2017-2018:  Appointed to serve on NACADA Committee  to address Historically Disenfranchised Students Curriculum Work Team
