Region Chairs, together with their Steering Committees, and within the missions of NACADA, determine the needs of NACADA members and how best the regional governance can fill those needs. The Region Chairs report to the Regional Division Representatives. Region 9 Chair - (elected, term October 2019-October 2021). Nominee must be a current member of the region for which s/he is being nominated as chair and must have been a member of the region for at least one year prior to taking office (Associate Members are not eligible).

Platform Statement: Part I

1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? (1500 characters or less)
If elected, I will foster inclusive & diverse involvement of the membership, mentor up & coming leaders to create collaborative professional development opportunities, & enhance connection among members (via technology). I believe Region 9 has tremendous assets & potential to help meet the goals of the Association.

Finding ways to foster strategic goal 2 - Provide professional development opportunities that are responsive to the needs of advisors & advising administrators. Providing, promoting, & supporting opportunities for professional growth virtually & in formats that are more readily accessible (i.e. Find & foster the involvement of members unable to attend conferences!) Thus, working toward meeting strategic goal 7 - Expand the use of innovative technology tools & resources to support the work of the Association. Lending to ways to meet strategic goal 4 - Foster inclusive practices within the Association that respect the principle of equity and the diversity of advising professionals...

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? (1500 characters or less)
One of the accomplishments I am most proud of within advising is being the founding president of the Washington State University Academic Advising Association (WSU ACADA). WSU ACADA is the primary organized group of professional and faculty advisors and student support personnel at Washington State University. I am incredibly proud of the fact that I was a part of developing a local organization at my former institution over 10 years ago that continues to foster goals such as: increasing advising effectiveness; strengthening communication on academic advising issues; development of a greater understanding of the role of advising in student learning and relationships with external academic professionals; and providing a network of advisors and other student affairs professionals fostering a collaborative environment to ensure student success and to provide opportunities for professional development to academic advisors. Spurring the growth of this local organization demonstrates my abilities...

3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? (1500 characters or less)
I am interested in serving in this leadership position to support the growth of NACADA in the region. I know there are some wonderful opportunities for growth of involvement in Region 9! I am specifically interested in getting new advisors involved to support their professional growth. This association has provided me with a tremendous amount of support and guidance in my profession and I look to support others as well. My CliftonStrengths are connectedness, empathy, arranger, developer and relator. I believe these strengths lend well to the Region chair position that requires a great deal of relationship building as well as executing specific tasks. I have been interested in serving as region chair for many years but feel like this is the time for me to do so! I have been encouraged by others in the association to serve in a new role. I believe I have a tremendous amount to offer.  The association would not exist without the phenomenal service of dedicated professionals and I would like...

4. Please describe how you will work to promote the enhancement of inclusivity throughout (or within) the association. (1500 characters or less)
I will work to promote the enhancement of inclusivity throughout the association by aligning the efforts within the region to further the strategic goals of the association. Supporting the region steering committee in fulfilling their responsibilities of:

Promoting the models, principles, and progressive practices of academic advising & supporting the professional development of advisors in the region –
     Via professional development opportunities within the region
     Encouraging more virtual learning venues to have dialogue around these topics

Encouraging active participation among region members & promoting and encouraging membership in NACADA
     For example, that you don’t have to attend a conference to get involved!
     Tapping new NACADA members to encourage participation in NACADA related activities
     Research, writing, engaging in the scholarship of advising
     Coordinated participation in webinars and post webinar discussions
