Platform Statement: Part I

1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? (1500 characters or less)
If elected, one of my goals would be to pull us together more as a region by increasing networking opportunities at the region conferences, annual conference, and virtually. I would also like to start a mentor program to pair new and seasoned advisors. The goals of the mentor program would be supporting new advisors/members, helping members get involved with NACADA, and providing guidance to those advisors seeking promotion. Another strategy is transparency. I think it's beneficial for members to understand what the Steering Committee is working on and hoping to achieve.

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? (1500 characters or less)
I thoroughly enjoyed serving as the Region 3 Awards Coordinator for the last two years. I enjoyed the challenge of tweaking an already organized process to include members from each state and advocating to start offering Certificates of Merit for the first time at the region level. Our committee had a member who is a wonderful writer and she drafted rubrics for each of the award categories to make it easier for our members to apply and for our readers to rank the nominees. My organizational skills and attention to detail allowed me to keep track of the nominees, volunteer readers, and the award program at the regional conference. Recruiting volunteers, showing appreciation for the help of others, and celebrating the achievements of our members are integral to leadership in NACADA.

3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? (1500 characters or less)
I was honored and humbled by the nomination to serve in this position. I have served in several leadership positions for the Region 3 Steering Committee and learned a wealth of information being on that committee as well as from previous region chairs. My aforementioned service has positioned me to be well versed on what this position can be. I believe I would advocate well for our region at the executive level at a time when changes are being discussed and encouraged.  I would also bring historical experience to the position so I would be able to hit the ground running. I strongly believe that we should be reinvesting in our region with any surplus that we make throughout the year. I am excited to consider alternative ways to bring us together as a region and get more people involved in leadership.

Platform Statement: Part IV

4. Please describe how you will work to promote the enhancement of inclusivity throughout (or within) the association. (1500 characters or less)
Our lives are enriched when we embrace those around us regardless of our differences. Region 3 is a strong region that invests in relationships with one another. If elected, I hope to continue the work towards inclusivity that has been started. I believe it is important to continue to offer scholarships for schools that are not represented to help increase the awareness of NACADA and the benefits available to members. I also think that it is important to work to recruit proposals that discuss important topics related to inclusivity. It is vital that we provide a warm and welcoming environment for all of our members and that we take that a step further by striving to kindly and compassionately challenge our own prejudices and stereotypes to better serve our students, our members, and ourselves.
