Career Advising Chair
Community Chairs are elected by their Community members and provide leadership for Community activities in support of the profession by representing its members and their needs and concerns through the Division Representatives and communicating with the members. Community Chairs coordinate community activities and lead Community meetings during the Annual Conference. Community Chairs report to the Division Representatives for the Advising Communities Division (ACD). Career Advising Chair - (elected, term October 2019-October 2021). Prior to taking office, candidates must have completed the previous year as a member in the Community and be a current member in that group.

Platform Statement: Part I

1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? (1500 characters or less)
I would be a tremendous honor to serve as Career Advising Chair for NACADA. In my current position as Senior Undergraduate Advisor for the Department of Economics at Southern Methodist University, a 4 year private institution located in Dallas, Texas, I have the pleasure to work closely with the Hegi Family Career Services office to develop effective strategies to help students identify and connect with  internship and job opportunities, conduct and promote workshops and alumni panels, and create and update materials for presentations and use by Career Center visitors. If elected for this position, I will attempt to accomplish the following: 1. Research industry trends to help educate students and advisors on career development, exploration and placement procedures. 2. Conduct meetings and discussions on effective career search process, resume preparation, interview skills and job search strategies. 3. Maintain regular contact with advisors to share knowledge and new job opportunites. 4....

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? (1500 characters or less)
I was born and raised in Lima, Peru (South America). I came to the United States in 2007 on a full athletic scholarship. I played Division I volleyball for 4 years. I earned my Associate degree from Indian Hills Community College in 2009, my Bachelor's degree from Indiana State University in 2011 and my Master's degree from Indiana State University in 2013. I was a first generation student, and became the first person in my family to earn not 1, not 2 but 3 degrees in 6 years. I am now a naturalized US citizen, happily married, with a healthy and beautiful 1 year old baby. I am a hard-working, self-motivated leader who gives 100% always. I am VERY proud of that!

3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? (1500 characters or less)
I am interested in serving in this leadership position because private universities are underrepresented in NACADA and I would love to offer a fresh new perspective on career advising.

I appreciate and value diversity and inclusivity. I would promote the enhancement of inclusivity throughout (or within) the association by showing appreciation ands celebrating people's uniqueness, inviting and welcoming new members with open arms, recognizing the great work and dedication advising professionals put in, asking open ended questions and showing genuine desire and interest to get to know members and asking for their input.

I attended the NACADA annual conference in Atlanta, Georgia in 2016, and the NACADA annual conference in Phoenix, Arizona in 2018. I have also served as a proposal reader for NACADA region 7 this year.
