1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? (1500 characters or less)
As we work to reward and celebrate excellent advising programs and advisors, this satisfies several strategic goals including the expansion of professional development opportunities, developing and sustaining effective association leadership, and creating an inclusive environment within the Association that promotes diversity. When advisors prepare nomination packets and receive recognition for the work they are doing, they engage in the profession by sharing out best-advising practices, when they attend the Annual Conference to receive their awards, it can also prompt individual advisors to network, build relationships, and engage with an organization who has recognized that work, building sustainable leadership for the future of NACADA.
My platform would include the following goals:
*Increase participation and number of submissions in all award categories
*Review nomination process/procedures to remove obstacles that hinder participation
*Enhance communication strategies/partnerships...

*Survey past award winners to learn more about the expectations and outcomes of the awards program
*Review and enhance "best practices" guides to support an increase of nominations and quality packets
*Increase number of reviewers so more members can see what is involved in the process and would feel comfortable submitting in the future

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? (1500 characters or less)
Many years ago, I was part of a group of academic advisors who developed the framework, bylaws, and structure for the Michigan Academic Advising Association which grew to be an extremely successful allied organization of NACADA. This was an amazing opportunity where I met colleagues and developed an advising network that launched my involvement in NACADA. I recently used this experience to organize a group of colleagues from the panhandle region of Florida and coastal Alabama to create the Emerald Coast Academic Advising Network (ECAAN). I hope that this new allied organization will provide opportunities for new and mid-level academic advisors in the region to find opportunities to build professional networks, serve in leadership roles, and continue to engage in professional development opportunities to grow as academic advising professionals. We recently held our first conference with nearly 100 attendees. I think this shows my continued interest and engagement in further developing the...

3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? (1500 characters or less)
I am excited for the possibility of my next leadership step in the organization that has been such a part of my life for nearly 16 years. NACADA has provided a place for me to meet people who have the same passion for working with students and improving advising on our campuses. This organization has provided me with multiple opportunities for involvement and leadership and has greatly impacted my career and professional development. Through my involvement I have been able to add to the scholarship of advising through publications and presentations, connect with other leaders through my positions/roles, and developed skills and frameworks that have helped shape advising across the institutions that I have worked for. I am committed to promoting and advancing NACADA goals through recognition opportunities provided by the Awards Committee. I have had the pleasure of serving on the awards committee for over 3 years and have also served as a reader for many years. This committee has been extremely...

I would love to continue to grow and develop this committee to increase the number of award submissions received each year to celebrate those who are doing this work!

4. Please describe how you will work to promote the enhancement of inclusivity throughout (or within) the association. (1500 characters or less) I want to support and enhance ideas that are already underway within NACADA to promote inclusivity. As Awards Chair, one of my main goals would be to increase the number of nominations and award recipients from members outside of the United States of America and Canada as well as from different levels of advisors, different types of institutions, and a variety of advising program types to mirror our diverse membership. I would work to establish relationships with the advising communities and regional leadership to promote and enhance diverse award submissions from all across the NACADA membership.
