Platform
Platform Statement: Part I
1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? Being active in NACADA is a major goal for me. I have been a general member for over five years, and now I want to make more of a contribution to our organization. I want to learn what others feel about this committee and what research can be done to develop technique to not only advance our multicultural student population, but our multicultural advising community as well.
Platform Statement: Part II
2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader?
I have been involved with multicultural community on my campus since my undergraduate days. My involvement in the multicultural communities help me to understand identity and development of one's identity. My first position withing a major university was as a program assistant for Washington State University Multicultural Student Services. I worked in this position for over six years. I learned how to communicate with students of color, other than those within my own community, and learn how to support their needs through academic enrichment, student involvement, and social interactions. I helped maintain our student mentor program and have been an advisor for various multicultural student organizations, fraternities and sororities. I used my experience to move into my first official advising position within the WSU College of Business, where I was able to serve on the Business Department Diversity Committee. I was also able to join the university's Multicultural Greek Advisor Council,...

I was also able to join the university's Multicultural Greek Advisor Council, and WSU Faculty and Staff of Diversity Committee. I also was asked to be apart of the CAMP Advisory Board (College Assistant Migrant Program) and the Chicano/Latino Faculty/Staff Association. Being apart of such wonderful committees and boards led to do research into unconscious biases and stereotyping. I gave my first NACADA presentation at the Region 8 regional conference. This accomplishment led me to become chair of a committee at my local WSU ACADA branch, apply for the Emerging Leaders Program, and continue my research in hopes of presenting at the 2014 NACADA Annual Conference.
Platform Statement: Part III
3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? I want to be involved. My main influence was the person who nominated me. He belived that I could do a natiuonal position such as this, and that I have more to offer than being a "general member". I am interested in this committee and want to understand why there is a lack of participation and what can we do to change that. With college campus placing diversity as one of their main goals/missions, this committee will serve as a tool for advisors in understanding the relationship multicultural students need from their advisors.
