Platform Statement: Part I
1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? If elected to the position of Chair of the Advising Administrator Commission, I would like to increase professional development among commission members. Specifically, I would like to start a mentor program between experienced advising administrators and those new to advising administration within the group. In addition, I would like to see a more robust communication through social media, such as Twitter and Facebook for this commission.
Platform Statement: Part II
2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? An accomplishment that I am proud of within NACADA is my selection as one of 2012 Outstanding Advisor-Primary Role recipients. It is an honor to be nominated for this award and humbling to be chosen. I believe this accomplishment demonstrates my dedication to advising. One of the strategic goals of NACADA is to "Promote the role of effective academic advising in student success to college and university decision makers." My own advising model matrix is one of tell, show, practice, do! I think students appreciate this and it helps make them capable of making good decisions. Furthermore, I believe this accomplishments shows that I lead by example (and some that know me would say by whirlwind!) I like to get tasks accomplished! The most humbling part of this award is that students nominated me for the award. The students are why I love what I do!
Platform Statement: Part III
3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? I am interested in this leadership position because, I want to be able to support my colleagues in administration. As a fairly new advising administrator, I have struggled in shifting from a front line advisor to administrator. I believe that having a support system in place is essential to success and transition for professional (just as it is for students). I would like to help guide that vision in the Advising Administration Commission.
