Platform Statement: Part I

1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association?
If elected, I would create a short-term strategic plan for what we want to accomplish as part of this committee for the two-year term. An active Small Colleges and Universities Steering Committee would also need to be created to assist in achieving our two-year goals. I also feel that we need to better engage our constituents better, so more communication with Small College members would be necessary to get an idea of what the commission needs to do to serve them better.

Platform Statement: Part II

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader?
I was proud to have my first presentation proposal accepted for the Annual Conference in Salt Lake City, and also to have that presentation chosen for a Sponsored Session by the Small College and University Commission ("What Happens Next? Challenges and Opportunities Faced by New Directors of Academic Advising"). I was also the recipient of the Outstanding Advisor Award at my previous institution, and currently serve as the Membership Manager for the Ohio Academic Advising Association and on the Executive Board of the Staff Association at my current institution (Lourdes University). I believe that my peers see me as a strong leader that believes in gathering input from many different points of view, but am able to make a decision when necessary.

Platform Statement: Part III

3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position?
I want to increase my involvement in NACADA primarily for the benefit of other members that work at Small Colleges and Universities, particularly because I have benefited greatly from the influence and assistance of other peers. We all serve our students better when we find ways to share practical, action-oriented knowledge among our peers in a cost-effective way. We are not competing against one another; we need to continually find ways to share knowledge to benefit each other and our students.

Past Involvement in NACADA

4. Outline your past involvement in NACADA:
     a. Years in NACADA
     b. National Offices Help and Accomplishments Achieved
     c. Regional Activities/Offices Held, including accomplishments achieved in office
     d. Etc.

I have been a member in NACADA since 2006, but have been able to increase my involvement recently. I presented twice at the Salt Lake City conference, and one session was recognized as one of the 3 Sponsored Sessions by the Small Colleges Commission. I hold an active position in the Ohio Academic Advising Association (OHAAA) as the Membership Manager, and have presented in that organization's Annual Conference. I was also actively involved for several years in NAGAP: The Association for Graduate Enrollment Management, and have presented for them, AACRAO, and the National Network of Law School Officers.
