Platform Statement: Part I
1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? I am honored to consider the possibility of serving as the Regional Division Representative. Salt Lake City in 2002 was my first NACADA conference and returning to Salt Lake this year was a homecoming for me of sorts. I believe that I have worked hard and learned much and I am eager to work harder and learn more in whatever capacity I may within NACADA.
I believe strongly in the idea of inclusion within all of NACADA - within the leadership, the regions, the states, committees, advisory boards, etc. and I hope that I would be able to serve as a vehicle to transfer ideas and possibilities from the membership to the leadership and vice versa. I also believe in building strong leadership for the present and for the future of NACADA. I have been the recipient of so much support personally from NACADA and I hope that I am successful in multiplying that by myself encouraging and supporting others in their personal and professional development.
Platform Statement: Part II
2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader?
In 2001 our campus began developing an advising association which became UCAN - University Counselors and Advisors Association. I know it was by no means the first group of it's kind, not even the first in our state - but I am proud that we organized that long ago and have built the group since that time. I was on the steering committee that developed UCAN and I served as our president from 2005-2007. I have to think that my relationship with NACADA grew out of this experience on my own campus and I will be forever grateful to my fellow advisors for including me in that steering committee.
Being selected to the Emerging Leaders Program in 2007 was really the start of my NACADA accomplishments. Before that time I had presented at three annual conferences but didn't feel as though I was truly a "part" of NACADA. That all changed as I spent my two years in Emerging Leader and then was elected to the Region 7 chair. It was during those years that I began to see myself as truly a part of NACADA....

I claim some kind of personal responsibility (totally unearned) for others whom I have encouraged in NACADA. I love seeing people at a second or third conference and hearing about how they are making presentations or writing for AAT or doing whatever it is they want to do within NACADA. I know firsthand that having someone believe in you and encourage you can make all of the difference in the world and I believe that I have been able to do that within Region 7 and through the Emerging Leaders. I can be a very bossy, take charge kind of person, but I hope that in most cases my representation of leadership is more of support and encouragement for those around me.

3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position?
I truly love being involved with the regions. A silly but favorite memory of our region chair tele-conferences (2009-2011) was seeing (and hearing) different schools mascots prominently displayed as we talked and recognizing the camaraderie and friendly rivalries between the different schools and different regions. I believe NACADA is at its best when we can recognize and celebrate the differences in our regions and still work together toward a common goal. I have been very blessed in working at a large public school that can afford to support me in NACADA but I am always cognizant of the many advisors in my region and across all of NACADA who are not able to attend annual conferences or maybe even regional conferences. I would hope that by serving in this position I could work to serve this population and to help NACADA to connect with advisors from all regions in whatever circumstances their job allowed. The regions are unique in being able to reach out to their membership with smaller events and I think those connections and professional development opportunities are critical to the profession.
Past Involvement in NACADA
4. Outline your past involvement in NACADA:
a. Years in NACADA
b. National Offices Help and Accomplishments Achieved
c. Regional Activities/Offices Held, including accomplishments achieved in office
d. Etc.
I joined NACADA and attended my first conference in Salt Lake City in 2002. From that time I have attended every annual conference and 8 consecutive region conferences.
I was in the first class of the Emerging Leaders Program (2007-2009). I joined the Emerging Leader Advisory Board in 2008 and have served continuously on that board since, presently serving as Chair of the Emerging Leader Advisory Board (2012-2014).
I served as Region 7 chair from 2007-2009 and I have presented at numerous regional and annual conferences. I also was the exhibits chair for the 2009 Annual conference in San Antonio, Texas and served on the Annual Conference Advisory Board from 2010-2012.
In 2013 I served as proposals chair for our Region 7 conference in San Antonio and I am very proud to say we hosted the largest region conference in the history of NACADA with just over 500 attendees.

I am equally proud of the region conferences that were held while I was Region 7 chair - I was blessed with incredible conference chairs that worked very hard and each of those conferences are very special in my memory. NACADA is not about numbers but rather it is about people and experiences and growing together and I think we were very successful in accomplishing those goals in our conferences in Kansas City and Oklahoma City during my region chair term.
