Platform Statement: Part I
1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association?
This topic was an integral part of our conversation at the Administrative Division meeting in Salt Lake in October. In my opinion, the diverse committees and advisory boards that make up the Administrative Division are, as a collective, key players in helping the organization achieve all of its recently-revised strategic goals. The current Administrative Division leadership has initiated a process whereby the committee and advisory boards consider committee goals in relationship to strategic goals and establish an outcome related to those goals. This is an excellent first step in establishing a direct link between the organizational goals and the realization of those goals, and this should be an ongoing part of the Administrative Division’s agenda. If elected, I would aspire to work with Administrative Division units to reflect upon their initial efforts to align committee goals with organizational goals and to lead the division in defining additional ways that we can contribute...

Assessment is essential, and I know that the current Administrative Division representatives are building this into the expectations and reporting structure for the units in our division. I would work to support, facilitate, and streamline this process for the committee and advisory board chairs.
Platform Statement: Part II
2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader?
While I’m happy and proud of the developments to the NACADA Awards process that occurred while I was chair of the Awards Committee, I’m most proud of working with my advising colleagues at Oregon State University to develop the initial Advising Vision, Mission, Values, Goals, and Outcomes for our campus. The by-product of this process has led to institutionalized resources to aid students and advisors and has led to greater investments in advising technology and human resources on our campus. It has also contributed to greater collegiality and collaboration amongst advising units on our college-centric, decentralized campus. While I can easily look at the vestiges of this process and say, “I thought of that” or “I wrote that,” frankly none of my individual efforts or those of any of my colleagues would have seen the light of day without the collective working through multiple stages towards a greater whole. What we started in 2005 laid the groundwork for a culture of continuous...

What we started in 2005 laid the groundwork for a culture of continuous development and improvement that still very much lives and breathes today. The leadership attributes I cultivated and exhibited during that process were a commitment to collaboration, a commitment to excellence, and a commitment to the belief that quality advising plays a vital role in student success – all of which would serve me well as Administrative Division representative.
Platform Statement: Part III
3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? Knowing that my tenure as chair of the Awards Committee was coming to a close led me to contemplate how I could continue to serve NACADA. I realized how much I have enjoyed being a part of the Administrative Division and that I would really like to contribute to the division on a larger scale. Being an Administrative Division representative feels like a logical next step for me. While I have a deep affinity for my region and for the commissions and interest groups of which I’ve been a part, I feel that my talents for process development and big-picture thinking are well-suited for this division and its collection of unique and distinct components.
