Platform Statement: Part I
1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association?
As the Region 4 Chair, it is vitally important not only to be open and engaging leader to the membership of the Southeast Region, but to work with our membership to develop clear and effective strategies to promote the work of our academic advising community.
Region 4 continues to be one of the leading innovators in NACADA. Our region was the first to establish a Research Symposium which was developed into a separate leadership seminar for the entire NACADA community. Additionally, in the past three years been on the cutting edge of the social media trends, even establishing a separate one day pre-conference workshop at the past two regional conferences (Miami and Biloxi).
I would want to continue in the philosophy of servant leadership, open communication, and mentoring. Region 4 has provided me with many opportunities to network and learn from so many individuals, I want to be able to provide the same to our members. This is your region as much as it is mine. I would want to continue in the philosophy of servant leadership, open communication, and mentoring. Region 4 has provided me with many opportunities to network and learn from so many individuals, I want to be able to provide the same to our members. This is your region as much as it is mine. I wanted us to continue to be innovators not only in research and social media, but in current trends in academic advisors.
I want to continue to serve with the Steering Committee by keeping an open communication to determine what is important to our members, but also reaching out to those who are not active members. I want to know what our members want and what direction our members want to focus on to continue to be the innovators of NACADA. Again, this is your region as much as it is mine.
My ultimate goal as Region 4 Chair is to connect and provide those individuals who want to be active members of NACADA opportunities to reach their professional development goals within the organization, whether it is at the state, regional, and/or national level(s). I would also like to see what we as region can do to provide more opportunities to our Caribbean advisors in our region.
This is your region just as much it is mine. I think we are off to a great start with developing a mentoring program within the region. Connecting those first time attendees or members with those who have been active participants of NACADA will be vital for acquiring and maintaining active participants of Region 4.
Additionally, be able to show members that being an active member of NACADA at the local, regional, and national level does not have to require a huge time commitment. I have been an active member of NACADA since 2009 and worked with the executive office as part of the 2010 Annual Conference Team and participated in Study Abroad and High School to College Interest Groups. I have also volunteered as a proposal reader for many of the annual and regional conferences since 2009. I want our members feel empowered to be active members whether it is reading proposal at any level for NACADA conferences, sharing or writing articles on best practices within the region, or sitting on a regional or national commission or interest group. Being an active member does not just include sitting on a steering committee, attending conferences, or spending long hours volunteering for NACADA events. Everyone needs to feel their contribution matters and is appreciated. As Region 4 chair, this is my hope.
I would really like to investigate re-establishing a Region 4 Quarterly Newsletter to provide information and updates from and about the region in-between Regional and Annual Conferences. Also provide other appropriate social media outlets for our members. Staying connected to our members and NACADA is very important to me and I am sure it is important to our members as well. If you want to be active member of NACADA it is my position to assist where you fit. It is your region just as it is mine.
Platform Statement: Part II
2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader?
As the current Region 4 Communications Coordinator has allowed me to meet and interact with many of our members at the Regional and State level and understand what makes our region one of the best regions in NACADA. There is such a diversity of institutions, advisors, and students we serve and want to be able to promote this not only to our members but to other regions as well.
Through the establishment of our Region 4 Facebook page this has permitted me to keep our members informed on what the steering committee is working on, notification of awards, and any other information that is region specific. I believe through this position has allowed me to be a servant leader. I believe leadership doesn’t necessarily come for knowing everything and doing everything, but comes from your experiences helping, listening, and working with others to achieve a common goal. I am very team oriented and that many two heads are better than one, and three heads better than two sometimes. I want...

Platform Statement: Part III
3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? I am interested in serving as the next Region 4 Chair, because I am passionate about what we do here in Region 4. Providing opportunities to active members and future leaders of the region are something, I believe Region 4 has done well. This is through either conference travel grants, excellence in academic advising awards, and/or developing programs to keep region 4 members connected between conferences such as social media outlets for the region and our member states. Being a part of a leadership team was an opportunity that was provided to me, and I want to be that person to be able to “provide that type of opportunity and give back to the region”.
