Platform Statement: Part I
1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? The strategic goals of NACADA includes quality academic advising in institutions of higher education to enhance the educational development of students. I strongly believe that advising at formative stages of a student, such as freshman level through helping the student accomplish their career goal has been and would be my mission to accomplish, if elected. I will work as an advocate for quality advising to students such that they receive an education not only in their field of interest but also in civic and leadership abilities. I will ensure that the institutions that I represent, meet and discuss strategies in furthering such philosophy together.
Platform Statement: Part II
2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? I am an engineer and I strongly believe in experiential learning and advice my students to gain knowledge and experience in their class through such learning process. The advantage of such an approach has been to introduce my students with the most recently available technology and science, develop an appreciation for engineering approaches to practical problems, engage them with societal partners for future professional development and provide them with a vision to develop critical reflections. I have found such an approach to develop a significant appreciation amongst the public and agencies on the value that the university provides to its community. I am extremely proud of the feedback I have received due to this process. As a leader, I would like to engage with the institutions I represent in Region 8 to enhance and diversify experiential learning through proper advising and guidance.
Platform Statement: Part III
3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? I am committed to respect diversity and provide support to students from women, minorities and underrepresented community, while respecting the needs of the majority. I strongly believe that quality advising will bring value to the academic community and ensure graduating technically competent students who possess team skills and are cognizant of the changing needs of an environmentally sensitive society. I am interested in this leadership position because during my last attendance in the NACADA Region 8 meeting in Anchorage, I realized that I will be able to step in and make a difference in the mission and vision of the Association.
Past Involvement in NACADA
4. Outline your past involvement in NACADA:
a. Years in NACADA
b. National Offices Help and Accomplishments Achieved
c. Regional Activities/Offices Held, including accomplishments achieved in office
d. Etc.
I have attended the 2013 NACADA Region 8 Conference and have had a chance to interact with a lot of educationists who are committed to quality mentoring and/or advising.
Although my involvement with NACADA has been for only one year, I believe I had carried the underlying philosophy of the association since I decided to join the university as a faculty member.
I am looking forward to my active involvement with NACADA in the future.
