Platform
Platform Statement: Part I

1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association?
My hope is continue the positive direction of the commission by increasing sessions at all conferences (national, regional, state, etc.), and increasing the information related to working with students with disabilities available on the NACADA website. We can increase involvement in the commission with both of those activities, and by utilizing technology to facilitate networking amongst commission members.

Platform Statement: Part II

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader?
This past August I implemented a new orientation program for junior level students. I work at a small nursing college, and our greatest retention issue is during the first semester of the junior year. After noticing this trend I formulated a plan for a junior level orientation. I worked collaboratively with faculty, staff, and outside offices to put together a full day of activities to support success. This included study strategies, time management, wellness, a student panel, and program specific testing strategies. This accomplishment shows my ability to lead through collaboration and team work. It also demonstrates my ability to balance multiple priorities and goals.

Platform Statement: Part III

3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position?
I have only been part of the commission for a short time, but quickly made connections and found opportunities for involvement. I want to give back to the commission by continuing to support this type of welcoming feel in a leadership role. The commission is headed in a positive direction and I believe I can help that to continue. Students with disabilities are part of many advisors’ caseloads and work, so the work of the commission is vital to many within NACADA. For this reason, I also want to help the commission expand our reach within NACADA.
