Platform Statement: Part I

1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association?
I am proud to be a member of NACADA and excited for the opportunity to continue to help shape the growth of the Association in meaningful and intentional ways. NACADA has been the most important professional resource to me throughout my career, in so many ways. I want to continue to encourage membership among and within this growing profession, and bring the goodness that is NACADA to as many as possible! I hope to continue to build on the many innovative initiatives that have been developed, are currently being developed, or have yet to be conceptualized!  Encouraging membership and member ideas is at the very heart of what I believe is a true grassroots organization. As a natural networker with an energetic personality, I believe I can encourage, motivate, and inspire continued involvement and growth as an organization. I function well as part of a larger conceptual team, and I truly believe that nothing is  more important that investment of ones time and energy to their professional organization.

Platform Statement: Part II

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader?
In 1999, I was tapped to consider serving as the Wisconsin state liaison to the Region 5 steering committee.  It was that same year that I also agreed to chair the 2003 NACADA regional conference that was slated to be held in Madison WI. I was honored to take on both of these roles. When the 2003 conference came to fruition, it was the first 'joint' regional conference to be held (we partnered with Region 4), and it delivered one of the biggest attendance numbers in regional history. I assumed the role of Region 5 representative with the close of that conference, and served from 2003-2005. In that role, I was able to continue to develop a Region 5 grants and awards program that had been started by my predecessor, and mentor, George Steele. Once again, Region 5 had struck on something that hit a cord with our members, and the other regions have since followed suit, developing a variety of grants and awards across the U.S. and Canadian provinces.

Platform Statement: Part III

3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position?
I have been involved and active with NACADA since the early years of my career, and have served in a variety of roles: Wisconsin state liaison, Region 5 conference chair, Region 5 chair, NACADA summer Institute faculty member, chapter author for a NACADA monograph and presenter for a NACADA webinar. In addition, I have presented at numerous national and regional conferences, including an 12-year run at the national conference (1999-2011) including such favorites as "Seven Habits of Highly Ineffective Advisors", "On and On Anon: A 10-step Program for Advisors Who Talk Too Much, and others."
I believe my breadth of experience, and my creative perspective will contribute much to the work being done at the Council level. I would be honored to be elected into this role and continue to contribute at a new level within the organization!
