Platform
Platform Statement: Part I
1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? If elected as a Regional Division Representative, I will work towards the strategic goal of developing and sustaining leadership. When I previously served as Region 2 Chair I had much to learn about budgeting, setting goals, and motivating my region steering committee to work locally for new initiatives and arranging for regional conferences. The Region Division Representatives at the time helped immensely in explaining my job description and understanding how to proceed. I would like to be able to encourage the current and future Region Chairs to be bold and develop their leadership skills just as I have been encouraged through serving in different capacities in NACADA.
Platform Statement: Part II
2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? After attending a NACADA summer institute in 2008 I was able to develop a strategic plan for faculty advisor development at Richard Stockton College. Through the wonderful experience I had at that summer institute I was able to come back to Stockton with a plan that I have seen grow and develop over the years. Part of the plan included instituting a faculty advising council, developing a series of noontime brown bag advising colloquia on current topics in advising, and a Provost’s award for excellence in faculty academic advising. While I was Region 2 Chair I proposed the development of an award for outstanding contributions to scholarship and research. This was something I was passionate about during my tenure as Chair, and I am so very proud of the work our steering committee did to make this a reality. I believe these achievements highlight my organizational skills and ability to work with others to accomplish common goals.
Platform Statement: Part III
3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? I am interested in serving in this leadership role because I believe I know the challenges of being a region chair, and I can assist others who are new to being chair with budgets, conference planning, and motivating those on their steering committees. NACADA has done much to assist me professionally, and it will be great to continue to pay it forward.
