Platform Statement: Part I
1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association?
If elected to the Board of Directors, I would work to accomplish the following in regard to NACADA’s strategic goals:
NACADA Goal: Expand and communicate the scholarship of academic advising
• Build on the NACADA International Conference inaugural year’s success, by facilitating marketing and communication pieces.
• Using my experience in marketing and social media, expand awareness of and increase numbers attending the NACADA Research Symposium through targeted communications with members (print, electronic, and web).
NACADA Goal: Provide professional development opportunities that are responsive to the needs of advisors and advising administrators
• Communicate with membership to assess professional development needs and challenges and work to provide those in traditional and alternative formats.
• Communication with and to fields which overlap and/or collaborate with academic advising, including but not limited to athletics, career centers, student affairs, disability...

• Communication with and to fields which overlap and/or collaborate with academic advising, including but not limited to athletics, career centers, student affairs, disability services, study abroad offices, and graduate programs, to promote the organization to those outside of traditional advising who would benefit from and might not be aware of NACADA.
NACADA Goal: Promote the role of effective academic advising in student success to college and university decision makers
• Work with NACADA leadership to increase award nominations through timely and consistent communication and media efforts (e.g., utilize the various listservs, social media avenues, email lists, and other print and electronic announcements). Award nominations help decision makers see the value in the work of advisors on their campus.
NACADA Goal: Create an inclusive environment within the Association that promotes diversity
• Develop an “I am NACADA” promotion to encourage individuals who have been uncertain about their role in the organization to get involved.
NACADA Goal: Develop and sustain effective Association leadership
• Continue work with Emerging Leaders Program Advisory Board to discover and grow future NACADA leaders.

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader?
I am proud of all my work within NACADA, as a volunteer, presenter, committee member, commission chair, and Emerging Leader. However, if I were to pick one accomplishment that demonstrates my abilities as a leader, I would choose the work I have been able to accomplish as part of Texas Tech University’s Committee on Academic Advising and Retention (CAAR). My work in NACADA was the catalyst for my appointment to the committee in 2011. CAAR has been successful in raising awareness that advising is a significant component of the success of students at Texas Tech University and garnering support and funding for academic advising activities. As a member of the Committee at large and the Professional Development (PD) Subcommittee, I have had the opportunity to act as a leader and advocate for academic advising at TTU.

The Professional Development Subcommittee of CAAR has accomplished much in the last three years. Our work resulted in the reinstatement of campus advising awards, both individual and team, as part of the President’s Excellence Awards. These awards demonstrate a renewed appreciation of the value of academic advising, providing both recognition and monetary compensation. The CAAR PD Subcommittee now oversees the application and selection process for these awards annually. The CAAR PD Subcommittee has also implemented moderated chats during NACADA webinars, quarterly advising roundtables, monthly advising trainings/workshops, and is planning a TTU Advising Conference for 2014.
In addition to my work on the team, I have been able to present many workshops for academic advisors on the TTU campus, our neighboring Health Sciences Center, and as part of the Advancing Teaching and Learning Conference.

• Tips & Tools for the New Advisor. Texas Tech University. Committee for Academic Advising and Retention: Advisor Training. Lubbock, TX. October 2012.
The work of NACADA is incredibly important, and I have been extremely grateful for the opportunity to bridge my work for the association and my campus through this endeavor.
Platform Statement: Part III
3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position?
One of the goals I set as a participant in the Emerging Leader Program of NACADA is to begin service on the Board of Directors. NACADA’s board members have a unique opportunity to interact with membership and affect change, and I am excited the possibility to be a part of this team.
I had the opportunity to get actively involved with NACADA as a volunteer during my very first national conference, and I have consistently built on that involvement over the last eight years. I believe that my strengths as an activator and maximizer will serve me well in the role of Board Member. I push for productive activity and strive for constant improvement in every aspect of my career, and motivate others to do the same.
My past and current participation in NACADA and my role on the Committee on Academic Advising and Retention (CAAR) at Texas Tech University have proven that I have an effective leadership voice for the academic advising profession. After participating in a variety of leadership...
