Platform Statement: Part I
1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? Working to represent the diverse interests of the regions and region chairs would be my primary goal as Regional Division Representative. Connecting those persons with and throughout NACADA with similar interests is a priority for me. I would continue to encourage opportunities for networking among the region chairs, and I would want to continue to provide resources to region chairs in the way of training and professional development opportunities. Helping the Region Chairs perform their duties effectively is how I view this role, and I believe my experiences in the last six or seven years within Region 5 will give me the tools to do just that.
Platform Statement: Part II
2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader?
In the past six or seven years, I have significantly increased my involvement within NACADA at the state and regional level. From March 2006 to October 2007, I served as the Illinois State Liaison to NACADA and as a Region 5 Steering Committee member. As a Region 5 Steering Committee member, I coordinated the Grant application and selection process for the region in 2007. In 2008, I served as the Concurrent Session Chair for the National Conference in Chicago, IL, and also served as a member on the NACADA Annual Conference Advisory Board, October 2008-2010. From 2011-2013 I had the great honor of serving as Region 5 Chair.
My experiences serving the membership of NACADA and Region 5 has been my greatest accomplishment as a professional within this organization. Our Region continues to have success with a focus towards meeting NACADA's strategic goals, and I am confident that I have played some small role in that. My experiences serving the membership of NACADA and Region 5 has been my greatest accomplishment as a professional within this organization. Our Region continues to have success with a focus towards meeting NACADA's strategic goals, and I am confident that I have played some small role in that. In my two years as Region Chair we have had tremendous success with our regional conferences, the Great Lakes~Great Leaders program, and providing grants to worthy members within the region. Most importantly, I firmly believe that the region is more organized and cohesive than it has ever been. This sustained involvement within Region 5 has given me a real understanding of the issues impacting the regions and shows a true commitment to NACADA and the field of academic advising, which I think is invaluable when moving into a role like the Regional Division Representative.
Platform Statement: Part III
3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? I have benefited tremendously from my involvement with NACADA, and this organization has given me many of the tools that have led to my success as an advising professional. Others that I have worked with in this organization continue to encourage my involvement, and I have always had the support of others to stay involved. My last two professional positions have been more administrative in nature, and I have enjoyed this new role and see that helping me in a position like the Regional Division Representative.
Professionally, serving as a Regional Division Representative seems to be a perfect fit. It gives me the opportunity to share with others the passion I have for this work, and it keeps me involved with an organization that has done so much to help me be successful.
