1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association?
Strategic goal: Develop and sustain effective Association leadership - This is an important strategic goal as we must work to keep association leadership engaged in the organization for continued success of the Association. I feel that if a person has a neutral or negative experience while serving in a leadership role that they will not seek further roles which could lead to the loss of great potential leaders. I would strive to ensure that the processes, requirements, and training of region chairs promotes a positive experience. This would include providing clear expectations, clear directions, and direct communication about all processes and reporting requirements. I would strive to continue to support and improve the changes that have happened in the last few years and provide a seasoned voice to the conversation so continued improvement can occur.

Strategic Goal: Engage in ongoing assessment of all facets of the Association - This is most important at the regional level as the Association is composed of regional members. It's important that clear assessment measures be promoted and utilized at the region level to provide information, direction, and support for the overall association goals. I would strive to ensure that region chairs be provided with information about what assessment is, how to implement it, and how to coordinate it so that there is some similarity in region reports while still respecting the differences of individual regions.
Strategic Goal: Pursue innovative technology tools and resources to support the Association - there have been great strides in the Association's use of technology to meet the goals of the Association. I would strive to continue to support technology to make the work of the region chairs more efficient and more productive. "Work smarter not harder" has always been one of my personal tenets and I think that I could assist with endeavors to promote technology usage in this arena.

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader?
At the campus level, during 2011-2013 I was the chair of our newly formed academic advising professional development committee which successfully brought a cohesive professional development framework to our campus. It was inclusive of both faculty and professional advisors and was relevant to topical issues that advisors experience every day. We planned several large scale campus events which brought NACADA core values and CAS standards for academic advising into the conversation about how advising happens on our campus and what we can do to improve it. This demonstrates my commitment to being a campus leader in regards to enhancing advising services and utilizing NACADA core values as the standard on our campus.
At the allied level, I am especially proud to be a part of the group that created the MIACADA allied organization and brought so many advisors in Michigan together. This was a wonderful way to get involved at the ground level and make connections that have lasted through the...

This was a wonderful way to get involved at the ground level and make connections that have lasted through the past decade. This demonstrates my ability to connect with my colleagues to develop and promote NACADA core values throughout the state of Michigan. This organization continues to be a strong and successful allied organization which regularly has over 250 people attend the annual conference.

3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? As a former region chair, I am aware of the needs of the region chairs for clear communication pathways from the board to the regions, as well as the executive office. I am also very familiar with the expectations for the region chairs and the processes that need to be followed. By the time I had figured out what was expected of me as a region chair, it felt like my term was up. I think serving in this capacity would allow me to use my experience as a region chair to mentor new region chairs and get them up to speed sooner. I know changes have been put in place since my term and I would like to be part of this continual improvement process and to use my skills and experiences to further refine and improve the training and mentoring that region chairs receive.
