Platform Statement: Part I

1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association?
I am a vocal advocate for creating inclusive campus environments, and my primary goal if elected to this position would be to further develop the conversation about how best to encourage inclusion of underrepresented groups in STEM fields. It is also important to address the preparation gap that many institutions have begun seeing in their incoming classes, and how we can best support those students so that they can succeed.

Platform Statement: Part II

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader?
For the past several years I have coordinated a student leadership and problem-solving program within Drexel University's College of Engineering, where students supplement their engineering courses with a structured peer mentorship experience, classes on leadership, organizational behavior and engineering management.  The program is designed to provide participating students with additional, more holistic opportunities to understand and strengthen their softer skills in conjunction with the technical proficiencies they earn through their engineering courses.

Platform Statement: Part III

3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position?
Demographics continue to change in STEM majors (for example, a higher percentage of women, more international students in engineering programs) and initiatives to integrate art, creative thinking and other humanities-based skills into STEM programs continue to gain support.  it is the responsibility of academic advisors to be educated and well-versed in these growing populations and trends so that we can best support the needs of our students and meet our institutional goals.

Past Involvement in NACADA

4. Outline your past involvement in NACADA:
     a. Years in NACADA
     b. National Offices Help and Accomplishments Achieved
     c. Regional Activities/Offices Held, including accomplishments achieved in office
     d. Etc.

I have been a member of NACADA since 2008, and have been involved with a number of commissions and interest groups.  I have also attended and presented at many state drive-in, regional, and national NACADA conferences in the past.
