Platform Statement: Part I
1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? If selected to serve NACADA in this capacity, I would continue the rich and ongoing conversation within the committee to promote advising for high achieving students, increasing awareness and identification of high achieving students among all advisors in order to promote and encourage high achieving students through all levels of higher education. Awareness and identification will be stressed through research and presentations on high achieving students specifically, and all students overall. These goals address most, if not all of the strategic goals of the association.
Platform Statement: Part II
2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? I assumed my current position as Academic Advisor less than two years ago, having performed a variety of roles in higher education. Within this most recent period of time I have advised more than 300 students who are assigned specifically to me, presented at four conferences (state, regional and two national) involving NACADA and the National Collegiate Honors Council. My first NACADA presentation was this past year in which I collaborated with two other advisors from two different four-year institutions.
Platform Statement: Part III
3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? I find I engage and perform at a higher level when serving in leadership positions in any organization of which I am a part.
Past Involvement in NACADA
4. Outline your past involvement in NACADA:
a. Years in NACADA
b. National Offices Help and Accomplishments Achieved
c. Regional Activities/Offices Held, including accomplishments achieved in office
d. Etc.
Although I am relatively new to NACADA (less than 2 years), I have served in various leadership roles with the National Collegiate Honors Council. In 2004 I was elected to serve on the NCHC Board of Directors. Through this and other roles, I have served as member and/or Chair of a number of NCHC committees such as Student Concerns, Conference Planning, Membership and Marketing, and Partners in the Parks. I have also served in various capacities on state and regional levels serving high achieving students in honors programs at a university and, currently, at a community college.
