Platform Statement: Part I
1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association? If elected, I hope to expand collaboration among the STEM academic advising community and increase research in our burgeoning field. I also hope to increase our commission's visibility within NACADA and promote NACADA membership through the commission.
Platform Statement: Part II
2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader? As the Vice President of KASADA (Kent Academic Support & Advising Association) I was in a unique position to move our organization in a new direction away from training advisors at Kent State and toward professional development of advisors in our organization. Part of the transition was introducing a new way to think about our organization. We were no longer the resource for Kent advising information, but now were a group of advisors to research with, share best practices, and other general collaboration. With change comes much strain and I feel that I was able to overcome much of the negativity that came along with the change in our organization. I was also able to articulate the new mission and vision of our organization along with the importance of this change.
Platform Statement: Part III
3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position? I am interested in serving in the commission's leadership position within NACADA because I am passionate about academic advising and excited to help expand knowledge about who advisors are and what we do. I also would like to emphasize why advising is important in fields such as science, technology, engineering, and math.
