Platform Statement: Part I

1. If elected to this position, what will you attempt to accomplish that will help to meet the strategic goals of the Association?
All of the NACADA Strategic Goals connect closely to the importance of assessment in academic advising.  If elected, the primary Strategic Goal that I would focus on is 'Expand and communicate the scholarship of academic advising.'  Institutions across the world are doing great work in assessment and are just starting to identify outlets to share this with others.  I would like to see the commission focus on how members can increase this body of research, forming partnerships within the commission and across other commissions.  This might include increasing NACADA presentations and publications on assessment as well as sharing information through listservs and the NACADA website.  I would also like to see the commission work on improving the use of technology for the development of assessment strategies within and across institutions.

Platform Statement: Part II

2. Describe an accomplishment on your own campus or within NACADA of which you are proud. What do you believe your accomplishment demonstrates about your abilities as a leader?
My work with the NACADA Assessment Institute as a faculty consultant since 2009 is a good indicator of my ability to lead this commission.  I attended the Assessment Institute as a participant for a few years and then was asked to change roles and become a faculty members for the Institute.  I was recognized for my ability to become a leader in a group for which I had been a participant.  In this role as faculty for the Assessment Institute, I have worked with hundreds of NACADA members and attendees on the development of their assessment plans for their institutions.  I have done both plenary presentations and small group discussions and served as a consultant on a one on one setting.  I have demonstrated leadership, flexibility, and commitment to the area of assessment of academic advising.

Platform Statement: Part III

3. Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position?
I truly believe that 'Assessment is Fun!'  I am passionate about the need for continuous assessment in the field of academic advising and know that as a profession we need to continue to connect the work we do to the teaching and learning mission of our institutions.  Across the world, amazing things are happening in academic advising, yet without assessment, we have no concrete way to validate or verify the work that we are doing.  The opportunity to serve in this position will allow me to work with and lead others in this very important work.
