Abstract:
|
The recent passage of anti-DEI legislation in more than 30 states has impeded the efforts of state institutions in those states to provide resources and programs intended on making higher education more accessible to students whose pathways have been bestrewn with social, financial, and political obstacles, without disenfranchising any other student populations. However, the phrase, 'student success,' breeds innovation and creativity in order to carry forward the vision to achieve not only departmental goals but also institutional goals.
This presentation will address the trials and tribulations of our newly formed Student Success Center, as well as its Herculean and efficacious efforts to successfully improve our students' attrition, involvement, persistence, and their retention and completion rates. Our theoretical perspective will focus on Tinto's Theories of Student Departure, Student Integration, and Student Persistence (1973, 1975, 1993, 1997). |
