Abstract:
|
The student learning experience can be represented by a continuum of learning goals and expectations. Certain skills and competencies must be developed at the foundation level of any program and continue to be built upon throughout the student's journey through the program. In a similar light, the advising relationship with students can also be traced on a relationship continuum which, according to Bloom's Appreciative Advising model, begins with disarming, discovering, and dreaming with the student in the early stages of their journey to ultimately helping the student design and deliver their goals and remain challenged to continually develop. The purpose of this presentation is to illustrate an example of an effective advising continuum in a virtual, predominantly adult-learner setting using Bloom's Appreciative Advising Model as a theoretical framework. |
