Abstract:
|
Front-line advising professionals frequently work with students who are stressed, in crisis, or emotionally overwhelmed. In these moments, emotions can transfer quickly, making it challenging to maintain composure, clarity, and effective leadership. This session explores how staff can function effectively under pressure while continuing to provide high-quality student support. Drawing on leadership principles developed in zero-margin-for-error environments, the presentation demonstrates practical strategies for managing emotional intensity, maintaining professional presence, and protecting personal wellbeing. Participants will examine how stress responses influence communication and decision-making and will leave with clear, transferable tools to strengthen their ability to lead in high-pressure situations. The focus is on sustainability, ensuring that those who support students can do so consistently without compromising their own resilience or long-term effectiveness. |
