Abstract:
|
Let's Discuss Course Repeat Policies and Their Impact on Student GPAs and Persistence
Academic policies have the ability to shape students' experiences and academic histories. Course repeat policies are often institution-specific and impact students' grade point averages (GPAs), ability to declare certain majors, and persistence. This session will present original quantitative research about the impact of an institutional course repeat policy on students declaring majors with prerequisite coursework and GPA minimums. Attendees will share their (popular or unpopular) opinions about repeat coursework, consider the regulations and limitations they would like to see in course repeat policies, and discuss best practices for advising students on repeating courses. |
