Abstract:
|
The 2026 NACADA Annual Conference will mark the launch of Discovering Socially Just Academic Advising: Empowerment, Advocacy, and Courage in Higher Education, the first book devoted entirely to social justice in academic advising. As social justice becomes increasingly vital across higher education, this volume centers the moral and ethical commitments required to pursue equity in our institutions. Academic advisors regularly hear students describe systems not designed for their diverse needs, yet often lack authority to remove those barriers. At the same time, advising itself is frequently marginalized, with professionals overworked and undercompensated. This moment calls for critical dialogue about how social justice practices and pedagogy belong within advising. In this panel featuring the book's editors, participants will explore core themes, key calls to action, and insights into the publication process and its collaborative development journey. |
