Abstract:
|
This presentation examines the evolution and impact of a dual purpose University Advising Center (UAC) designed to support both undecided students and those in academic recovery. Few models in higher education intentionally centralize academic exploration and academic recovery into a single advising space. This session highlights the benefits of such a structure for student engagement, sense of belonging, and persistence. Since its creation, the UAC has developed clear identities for Academic Exploration Advising and Academic Recovery Advising, each grounded in proactive, intrusive, and holistic advising approaches that promote timely progress and SAPS compliance. Presenters will share quantitative and qualitative outcomes demonstrating increased 'eligible to persist' rates for both populations, describe core campus partnerships supporting each advising area, and illustrate how this adaptable model connects people, purpose, and possibility across exploration and recovery pathways to advance equitable student success. |
