Abstract:
|
Neurodivergent academic advisors bring valuable strengths to advising, including empathy, creativity, and resourcefulness under pressure. Yet many advising environments are structured around norms that can create barriers for neurodivergent professionals. This panel centers the lived experiences of neurodivergent advisors, exploring how neurodivergence shapes day-to-day work, influences interactions with students and colleagues, and intersects with workload, communication expectations, disclosure decisions, and burnout. Panelists will share both challenges and affirming experiences, moving beyond deficit narratives to examine how institutional culture can better support neurodivergent professionals. This session is designed for advisors and administrators who are neurodivergent or are interested in understanding neurodiversity in advising workplace. No prior knowledge of neurodiversity is required. |
