Abstract:
|
This session introduces a Socially Just Academic Advising Leadership Model grounded in ecological theory, culturally relevant leadership, and person-in-environment principles. Drawing from a forthcoming book chapter on socially just advising leadership, the session explores how identity, cultural capital, habitus, and systemic forces shape advising environments and leadership behaviors. Participants will examine how advising leaders can disrupt inequitable structures, foster belonging, and support the success of advisors and students across interconnected ecological systems. Through practical tools, reflective strategies, and case-based application, attendees will learn how to design advising practices and leadership behaviors that align with NACADA's core values and advance equity within their units. This session centers leadership development as a dynamic process shaped by personal, social, and historical forces, offering a comprehensive framework for justice-oriented leadership advising. |
